Hey there, I just finished converting my 1973 D100 to a super-six; thanks to this forum! My next project is steering. There is quite a bit of play in the steering wheel and the gear box needs to be replaced. I would like to convert it to power steering. Does anyone have the part numbers for what I need? Pulley, pump, steering shaft, etc. ? Not sure all I need, thanks so much for your help!

Part numbers? No. You need to find a 2WD pickup in a wrecking yard and get the power steering box, pump, hoses and brackets. You'll also need the shorter shaft from the steering box to the rag joint. Don't forget the power steering pulley from the front of the damper.

You will also need the frame brace that reinforces the steering box area of the frame to prevent cracking.

I have moved this topic from the Engine forum. This is a better place for it.

I put power steering on my 83 D-150 / slant six the fall of 08,
got all the parts off an 87 D-150 / slant from a salvage yard
you will need
1) power steering box with the steering arm (I think the power and manual steering arms are different) got a loaner steering arm puller from a local parts shop.
2) steering shaft from the steering box to the rag joint,, manual and power boxes bolt up the same, (power box has one more mounting bolt, my frame already had the extra hole punched) but the boxes are not the same length,, steering shafts are different lengths to make up the difference.
3) power steering pump and mounting brackets, hoses / lines
4) crank pulley and belt.

taking the old box off, mounting the new stuff was an easy one day project,
remember to get the mounting bolts (pulley, power steering brackets and pump, box) with the salvage yard goods. Torque the box to frame bolts plenty tight, check your FSM
I had also sent the power steering box out for a professional rebuild before I installed it. Steer and Gear in Ohio did that work,

The slop in the steering is likely due to wear in the slip joint at the lower steering shaft steering box connection, that joint will change when you change to a power steering box, but as the one you acquire is also likely to be worn, here is a link on how to rebuild it.

www.moparpartsamerica.com is a good alternative to the high priced dealers for parts like the joint rebuild kit.

The frame bracket mentioned in a previous post is available from
dodgeconnection. The bracket is a severe service part. I have seen bunches of Dodge trucks with factory power steering in salvage yards, have never seen one with the frame bracket on it as a factory installed item.

good luck with your project.
