My D 100 has deviated from factory recommendation tire size
it has 235 75 15 tires & are worn
but the ride is nice with benefits typical
of an over sized tire .

The door jamb recommends 195 75 15 truly a small tire
If i go 195 - 75 I figure it will substantially improve low end gearing
be more shore footed . Gas mileage might go up .

Negatives - ride might become jarring . truck might drive a little squirrelly
Ground clearance loss .

Should I go factory or what seems popular 235 - 75
I can also compromise 225 -75 or one more size below

Any views on subject

the 195s are hard to find and usually more expensive. if you want to go with the original hight you could use a 205/70/15

other then that your consideration is the speedometer. tire size will affect its calibration

May 86 D150 has 255/70/15's on it now. I plan on switching to 205/70/15's. That seems like the way to go, but I'm not a tire expert. :)

What's the load rating of the OEM tires?

If they were truck tires it would be higher than replacement car tires.

I like going up a size to correct for the (usually) reading fast stock speedo........

And what's the rim width? 235 sounds wide for a stock rim that was for a 195.

I had a power outage for 4 days - back on today

Firestone has a set with complete installation tire disposal $279
& correct really not to many choice these tire's are called Iron man
205 70's more choices .

I met a guy who owns a D 150 with a 318 & his door jam said 235 75 15
so I assume the reasons are that a 318 CI has more upper torque and
the D 150 must have a higher gross weight payload rating.

The more I experience the D 100 slant
I see that it's kinda of a throwback of the mighty
old pickups with the smallish tire . They were a working man's street truck
that was used in town maybe some dirt roads . The owners of these mighty trucks did not go bashing into the woods looking for mud

Sure the slant will do high speed if pushed but the truck is a throwback that you should consider 60 MPH top speed .
An in town work horse,
of town speed to 60 MPH
so the size of 195 75 15 will be just right.
The D 100 slant is a low speed work horse .

For sure my speedo is off calibration
Some low end grunt is hidden
higher speed is great but not wanted
it's a mismatch .

I want to make it original at least to see if my hunch is correct

This you tube oldie kinda shows how simple the pick ups were
skinny tires simple interiors
The D 100 is more modern , but kinda the last of simple .
