ok, so the lower ball joint is removed on my 63; now the spindle is just hanging on the upper ball joint stud. Can I use a pickle fork or something else to break it loose from the ball joint.
Its just pressed on the tapered stud, Right?

Yes,

Do you plan to try to reuse the Seal or the Ball joint?

If so, maybe use a proper ball joint separator tool instead of the pickle fork.

If not then use the pickle fork.

Sometimes a bit of heat from an oxy-acetylene torch or MAPP Gas Torch along with a BFH can be helpful - you will probably set the boot and grease on fire so be ready for that.

I prefer to Pop the Upper Ball Joint first, then the lower But it can be done either way.
I suspect that if it's no longer connected to the Lower Ball Joint or Lower control arm al lot of the force you are using on the pickle fork is wasted in pushing the Spindle swinging / spinning around instead of breaking the thing loose. and sometimes 60 year old parts what to stay put where they are too!
