FYI

I was at Oregon Cam this morning picking up some race oil from him and I asked Ken what was one of his bigger cam profiles for the .904 mopar lifter.

Grind #1543
intake 289* duration at .050" .647" with 1.5 .690" with 1.6 rocker arm ratio .026 valve lash
exhaust 289* duration at .050" .650" with 1.5 .693" with 1.6 rocker arm ratio .026 valve lash
lobe separation on this one is 108

Big cam with lots of lift.

Is that one in a roller flavor or flat tappet variety?

Thanks Dave & Ken!

Gotta be flat tappet, but Dave can verify.

What is this fascination with lawn mower cams?

It was a flat tappet for the super x series lawn mower. Only sold in the Pacific Norhtwest.

 Here in Seattle East, it grows 4"+/day, & rarely has a chance to dry out. We need a huge mid-range torque curve,  ...

Well, anyone that know me, knows that I do everything to a slant six that you are not suppose do. With that being said my lawn mower is no different.

I will be removing the flat tappet camshaft from the mower this winter and will be upgrading to a more aggressive roller camshaft.

OC grind number #1542 296* intake 302* exhaust with .824 valve lift.

This should provide more midrange power even suitable for the Seattle area.

But with our Slant 6 head there is only very small gains in any flow after .550 lift unless someone has found a new mystery head. So wouldn't be much easier on equipment and make just as much power to have the same duration and much lower lift than .697? Just wonderin! :D

Try to keep up, anything with .550" or less lift belongs in a lawnmower.

This is a guess, and ONLY a guess, but the longer you can keep the valve at or above optimum flow, the more power you can theoretically make.

Sorry...this was just a little Kelso WA humor. I'm not putting a .800 " lift camshaft in my single cylinder, flat head, Brigs & Stratton lawn mower engine.

just some FYI how big OC can make a roller camshaft.

I think if you tried to do so, you would bend the valve on the head anyway! :D :D
