Hey, I've taken 2500 mi trips with 3.23 gears, but with an 8.75" axle it's a snap to change anyway... Maybe just a set of tall tires is easier?

The front of the car is much higher then it was... it's up about 4 inches. :shock:
I am going to have to crank down the t-bars a few turns to get the nose down again.

As for the gear swap, Allen and I can knock it out in about an hour... so we will go with the higher ratio and the tall rear tires!
Seeing the engine is so new and we will have to cover a lot of miles in a short time, I will trade some 1/4 mile ET for better "freeway legs" to get up there... we will swap-on the short tires for drag racing work.

The next 48 hours will be important... I have to get this motor dialed-in and get confidance that it's not going to give me trouble on a long road trip.

What torque converter are you using?
At what rpm does it lock up? or does it actually lock?
How does it differ from a stock 904 converter?

Non-locking factory converter in the Dacuda, basically a rebuilt 66 904 with some HD parts. The converter stalls around 1800 RPM.

Here is the relocated alternator.

Gears are swaped and the final tune is done... this engine runs good.
We even changed the fuel pump's mounting gasket, hoping to fix the oil leak... I'm not sure we got the leak fixed, I still see a few drops on the driveway.

Drove the car to work and back today... no problems.
It's a go... we pack-up and leave as early as possible tomorrow. (Friday)
If we are liucky, we will hit town ( Medford) around 9:00 PM and get thru the Champion Raceway gate, or we have to hop the fence to say Hi! to everyone. :twisted:

The fan is the cheapest, lightest flex fan out of Summit, it's one step up from running no fan.
Allen added a row of electric computer cooling fans to the system tonight... he saw how wimpy the flex fan is. :oops:

I have a nice STEEL center Flexalite with Stainless blades - not the wing fan in Silver which I would have donated - Displaces a hell of a lot of air

Since you are running a one barrel for racing, which one are you using and what did you do to it so you could race with it?

The reason I am asking is that I would like to take my car to the strip and get a slip or two. However, with a leaned out 1920 #56 jet, I am running about 19 seconds using my sons G-Tech. Should I put a #64 jet in the 1920 with some race gas and clean out the trunk? I am right at 3600 lbs with the tank full and my son. Any thoughts would be appreciated. :D

We have a Carter BBS on Twiggy at the moment. We will see if we can run some 17 sec ETs with the 1 bbl Carter carb.

Please start a new thread with your drag strip preperation question. I can post some tips but I don't want to do it in this engine build thread.

So... Twiggy is alive and well, even after a 800 mile road trip to Medford and some drag strip passes.
We ran the best ET of 17.32 so this engine is well into the 17's with the BBS 1bbl carb.

Our biggest concern on the trip was engine temp. during long, up-hill pulls, coolent temp will climb to 220 on my cheapo Sun-tune gauge.
The temp will drop back down to 185 as soon as we crest the hill and get out of the throttle.
Sounds like I will be servicing that radiator after all. :roll: :oops:
I need to do an oil change and a check bolt tightness this weekend but over-all, I am pleased with the way this engine is running.

How about $200 for a nice Afco aluminum rad? I have AFC 80100N (through Summit) in my '68 right now. Snap to mount and twice the capacity of a stocker. I have a little 12" elec fan on there that works fine w/no mech fan.
