Post subject:  clifford 4 barrel intake

Would like to run a holley 2280 on this intake. What adapter is needed..... Thankyou!

That's a vacc. leak waiting to happen...

You will have to stack 2 adaptors on each other- Holley 4 barrel to Holley 2300-2 barrel at the manifold, then stack a Mr. Gasket 1937 adaptor on that (2300 to BBD/2280)....

Additionally...you will have to make sure the clifford has an open bore single square hole in it's flange/adaptor, not 4 individual holes....

I believe I have used the Mr. Gasket/Transdapt adapter plate by itself on a Clifford. May have modified it a little???

The square opening is 3-1/2" x 3 -1/2"....no individual holes.
Bolt holes (centerline) are 3-3/4" apart measuring parallel w/ engine and the perpendicular holes are 3-7/8" apart. Got this aluminum intake a few years ago...its all polished and no identification on it but I remember it being advertised as a Clifford. thanks guys! DI, not gonna stack that many adapters together thats for sure. Maybe I can trade this for an M1 2 barrel intake some day.

If you can't get a 4 barrel-2 barrel adaptor modified and then add the 1937 adaptor, next best thing would be to be to get a 5"x5" piece of 3/8"
aluminum and borrow a buddy's drill press and make a clifford to BBD plate.

Clifford does make a 2 barrel adapter for their intake manifold. Says it will adapt weber carbs to the manifold so I'm not sure if it would work for your Holley but just throwing it out there. They have a few other 2 barrel adapters on their site.

Also, while your not looking for a 4 bbl adaptor, this might have some useful information if you want to take a crack at making your own.

Yeah, that will go from clifford to the Holley 2300...just looking at it, you can save the $68+shipping and just order a Holley 4 barrel- 2300 2 barrel adaptor like Lou said and do some drilling and grinding...probably find it on the shelf at Autozone for $23...and maybe 2 hours of your patience and labor.

They make an adapter for the Holley 2300 and the Weber DG series of carburettors, neither of those will work with a Holley 2280. Its not hard to make an adapter. A drill press, a 1 !/4" hole saw, a 17/64 drill bit and a 5/16" tap is all that is needed.

And if you don't want to make the adapter, I would be more the happy to swap a cast iron 2v manifold for the Clifford.

Actually he would be doing him a favor. I'd think a Clifford would be a horrid intake with a tiny carb.

I kind of wondered that with the larger plenum space in the manifold, it was similar to experiences with the Hyperpak intake without the 'split plenum'...some bogs and a few other adjustments to get the little 390 just right to run on it. I would think it would work, but would need the mains to be slightly richer until the manifold was warmed up, the pump shoit woudlneed to be increased a bit, and maybe playing with the timing to get the best vacc. in the manifold, but the down side on that might be the vacc. reading might be 'peaky'.

No, the older ones do not, some of the newer ones were offered with water heat capability.

Manifold heat of some kind would help the situation out, for sure.

I have run a Autolite 2100 on the standard 2v intake and on the Offy. While the butt-o-meter says the Offy was better, the ETs didn't agree. The same situation happened when I swapped an Offy for a Clifford. The butt-o-meter said the Clifford was better, but the ET's didn't really support the feeling. I may also be that the cars chassis had reached there limits and nothing, enigine wise, was going to make them faster.

I really don't think a 2280 on a Clifford would be much better then on the standard 2v intake, and a M1 is just aluminum version of the export 2v that the Direct Connection folks marked up in price.

On the other hand, for all it's warts, the electro beam 2 piece aluminum 2v just may have better port consistence then either the standard 2v, or the M1. If you can seal the intake it just may be the better one to have.
