Hi guys, I have just registered on the slant 6 forum, this is my first posting.
I'm in Sydney Australia, I own a 1961 Valiant 4 door auto sedan, I'm working on installing a hyperpack induction and exhaust system. I have tracked down a clifford inlet manifold, I have an AFB 4BBL carbie and hyperpak air cleaner. The problem is the exhaust system, ideally I would love to purchase a set of cast iron hyperpack headers, however quite rare.
I have heard that Dutra make a decent set of cast headers for the slant. Where can I purchase them, are they a straight bolt-on option, that is, are they machined ready to go. Can anyone help me please. Thanks Regards George

Welcome to dot org!

PM Doug Dutra, "Doc" on this forum. As with any custom built parts, there may be some clearancing needed for fitment.

I own a stock /6 with a front 3 exhaust Dutra Dual and used a modified back original exhaust keeping the heat riser. I slapped on 2" dual pipes connected with an H pipe for gas balancing and dual flowmaster 40s. Best set up ever :o

Doug Dutra was able to ship the Dual to me, machined and ready to bolt on.http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D4SSGeH5Kt0k&rct=j&sa=X&ei=AZevUKqSOs_H0AGbuoDIBA&ved=0CEEQuAIwADgK&q=67+barracuda+youtube&usg=AFQjCNHBHlZFXPg1L53bwxpwzp_XDRdYhA

George: Clifford Repro HyperPak works rather nice with a set of Pacemaker 'tuned' headers.

Early body's need the Pacemakers flexed inward to make sure they clear the left Torsion Bar. VE onwards it's not a problem.

Let me know how you go with the AFB - I'm thinking of swapping out my Holley and 1" riser for a later Carter.
Had to mod a spare bonnet for clearance.

Thanks for all your responses guys,

In the absence of the hyper pack cast iron exhaust header, I was thinking of installing a standard exhaust manifold with a block off plate on the hot box with a large diameter engine pipe. I bolted this set up on my spare slant 6, it seem like everything clears and nothing is rubbing.

Doc thanks for your reply, as previously mentioned my peference is hyperpack headers. However, I like the look of the Dutra cast headers. are the headers available in the front(3 into 1) and rear(3 into 1) headers as I don't need a hot box. Are they machined so all I need to get is a 2 into 1 engine pipes fabricated.
Is there a web site where I can see photos of this set up and what sort of money are we looking at for the headers.

Slanted 67, thanks for the link the barracuda, it looks great and I do like your exhaust set-up. This is the look I want with my valiant, but without the hotbox as I have an electric choke on the 4bbl carter.

PiD v4.0, thanks for you handy hints on the pacemakers. I would mind seeing some photos of the hyperpak VC.

If I go down the path of standard exhaust and hyperpack inlet then I need to make up some custom flange washers to compensate for the different flange thicknesses, as the flange on the repo hyperpak inlet manifold is thicker than the flange on the standard exhaust manifold, the is maybe 3 to 4mm variation.

Thanks for all the advice so far much appreciated.

Regards

George

You can just do a little grinding or filing to make this work, much better than trying to get everything just right and easier than trying to partially face a set of washers.

Thanks for the extra photo PiD v4.0 the VC looks good.

Ceej I think the dutra duals look great

DusterIdiot, thanks for the advice I think I will do the machining on the inlet flange to bring it down to the same thickness as the exhaust manifold flange.
Since I can not find the cast iron hyperpak exhaust headers, I think I still like the dutra duals where can I purchase these!!

Hi Doc, do I contact you to purchase the duals, are these made to special or are they off the self.
How can I arrange an order and shipping them over to Sydney Australia.
What are the costs for the dutra duals.
Please supply details.

Regards,

George
