Just passing this along the Micro gard filter MGL51068 is a WIX 51068 Filter for 3.79. Half the price. The filter that Purolator listed for my truck 84 D150 is a skinny tall filter, the oil pump flange is bigger than the filter. I didn't like that at all so I'm switching over to the big Ole wix. It fits just fine.

Do you know if its actually made by wix? Have you taken them both apart to compare side by side? Just because they use the same part numbers isn't enough to go on, those are fairly standard.

With the moparts discount on filter1.com wix is fairly cheap.

No I haven't taken both filters apart, just compared them side by side, they look identical. I didn't want to spend 8 bucks on the wix filter to tear it apart :D

Seems I may be wrong on this. I've been reading and it seems they are now made by Honeywell. This mgl51068 has some good features on it so I'll run it for this oil change then it will be Napa / Wix. Shoot I thought I may have been on to something good. Sorry guys :?

Alot of manufatures use standard numberings... I.E. wix 51068=napa 1068= micro gaurd mgl51068= parts master 61068, etc...

If Im not mistaken micro gaurd is manufactured by Purolator, where as WIX, PARTS MASTER, NAPA are by AFFINIA group... Keep in mind though the price diff comes from manufacturing difference... I.E. silicone anti-drain back valve vs. rubber, steel media caps vs cardboard, coil spring vs butterfly spring, media material and surface area etc....

Gad zukes, $8 for a wix 51068?? http://www.filter1.com a genuine wix 51068 is 4.53, $3.93 after the moparts discount code. Shipping is free if you order $50 worth. I usually order several filters for all my cars once every few years to get the free shipping.

Thanks Pierre for that link. Is there a thread on here with the different part numbers, manufacturers, dimensions, what size filters will fit what motor and cars / trucks, etc ?? The reason I ask is because the filter that Purolator lists for my truck is not what I would consider a good fit. I'll post a pic

Wix numbers

51068 is the shorter filter
51515 is the standard height, no standpipe filter
51806 is the standard height filter with standpipe
51773 is the extra tall filter - uses an extra 1/2 to 1 qt oil

I've never seen a filter that narrow as you picture used on a slant. I don't know if that's a manufacturing issue or if you just got the wrong one or what. All the ones listed above will have a gasket that match the pump's flange, and the body will be wide enough to actually cover the flange all together.

There's no need for the short filter since you don't have clearance issues. If your pump has the standpipe use the 51515, otherwise the 51806.

L20195 translates to a wix 51516. Outer diameter listed at 2.9" vs 3.6" of a 51515.

Looks like it was meant for a dodge 3.7L (226) v6, someone may have made a catalog bubu and listed it for a 3.7L L6 225 as well.
