Cut trans tunnel near OEM for the RX7 trans stick.

Installed hurst shifter for the 833 lots of room and no restrictions on movements.
Now it needs to be boxed into the tunnel.
I need to pull the dash and close in the firewall too.

Driveshaft Update
Looks like I will need a custom made driveshaft.
The A833 slip yolk and driveshaft end way too big for RX7 tube.
Not sure where this is going yet.

Clutch Update
Not enough room forbthe throwout fork. Gonna go hydro release bearing. That'll be a while.
Thats it for now.

Okay have made room for long truck throwout fork to clear.
Here is a question has anyone ever used a cable system for this clutch.
Barring that idea, going to go master cyl and slave cylinder from speedway.
At least my pedal is already setup for this.
Not sure I could use the stock RX7 master or not..

A bit late to this party, regrettably.

I changed the clutch to "pull" on my HAMBster by adding another fork end to the existing one, and moving the pivot to the other side. I then swapped the "ball" style adjuster for an industrial clevis style. I didn't need to, but it'd be fairly easy to then shorten the linkage end as needed.

I don't have a shot of the back side of the new arm, but basically I added two 3/8" cold roll bars in the troughs formed at the sides of the stampings. Reinforced it nicely, still serving well, after 10 years, an OZ clutch upgrade, and far less than tender use.

Original install, in stock bell (note "slider" strip on portal) ......

Second install, in Q.T. bell (note "slider" moved to arm itself) ......

Clevis style adjuster ......

Very interesting work.
And with a 10 year proven track record to boot...

This might be one of the coolest things I've ever seen!

Of course I'd be bit biased because I'm one of those swap a slant 6 into everything kinda guy!

I dig it. I get really bored with all the LS swaps going on. This is out of the box.

Now you just need to turbo it!

I do admit that I did wanna swap a slant into a '60's Volvo 122

I like the idea is putting Slants in all sorts of other vehicles. I have a list in mind. Those have to come after the current list of projects already waiting on me...

I’m enjoying following your progress!!

Hey all, Thanx for all the "Thumbs Up", on this oddball of a project, I'm still scratching my head on the whole idea.
So a bit of an update, trans and engine are mounted in, all of the firewall cutting had to be repaired, and it is now completed, there are some floor patches to repair, and as well some minor unibody reinforcements, as well as the tunnel around the A833 Hurst shifter.

My biggest challenge and hurdle, will be designing and fabbing up the clutch hydraulics, and have already decided no hydro release bearing will be used in this.
I'm going clutch master cyl and slave cyl set-up.
I do have already the clutch pedal and MC for the stock RX7, this is a bit small for the job, but the pedal is setup with stops and all. So stay tuned, or add in your ideas or proven methods, there will not be any Z bar and linkages used on this, I have considered a cable setup, but have no idea what and if it would be serious option.
Here's a pics of the firewall closed and welded in....

Again Thanx for all the interest, and I will do my utmost to complete this project, and to document everything along the way.
There are hurdles, but nothing to monumental, so stay tuned, and add your comments.
I am hoping to "Turbo" this engine, nothing to radical, a blow through, with 6-8 psi boost on a near bone stock engine, this of course might be the ticket for the fairly low RPM powerband numbers.
Once I have a flywheel in my possession, will get this engine running, as I have not as of yet. Im going by a previous owners testimony on how it runs, we all know how true those testaments can be....LOL
The Mazda RX7 diffs, can be relatively tough, especially the later types, limited slip, and all are 4 link types.
Mine unfortunately is an open diff, and is geared at 3.90s, not bad for an A833 Overdrive for sure, but rated pretty wimpy good to maybe 200 hp, and not a lot of torque twist.
Will post more as things progress......

That rear diff should hold up if you abstain from clutch dumps and burnouts. I've seen them hold up to Chevy 383s.

Well Yes your correct, especially with the "limited slip" types, can handle a lot considering.
The little open diff should handle a stock slant 6 just fine, souped or turbo, all bets off.
