I'd like to see a slant six Youtube channel. I'm sure there are some great cars from this forum that would make good content. Some tech and fabrication series.

UT video on back pressure https://youtu.be/A2G1EOB4P3w

exhaust system design is more complex than back pressure. Many new motors have internal exhaust manifolds - they prefer this for turbo chargers. Newer BMW inline sixes have only two outlets. Some Honda and other motors also do this. Its not so simple of a subject as my intuition would have said that internal exhaust manifolds was bad. Chrysler 3.6 has that too.

Next up, Uncle Tony will call on Competition Cams to recommend a grind for the 3500-5500 rpm range. I can't wait to see what they recommend as that is about the power range of my engine.

I have data from a good number of successful street, drag, and road race cars. I have not been impressed with Comp's specs in the past, since no one has direct experience. However, I'll be interested to see what they spec, and whether it works (if someone tries one). Always good to have more experiments.

Lou

This will be fun...like Lou states Comp isn't really set up to help the guy off the V-8 path...I called Comp when I built my 10:1 motor and the guy punched the specs into his software package
and said that the Comp 264 should do fine... I knew that the profile wasn't going to work right with the build after running the DCR calc...luckily the Erson Group Buy occurred and the 280/270
worked perfectly for the build and the gearing... Even Ken at OCG isn't experienced in picking cams for our builds, so you have to do a little research and be your own advocate when spec'ing
the grind...

I believe I read somewhere on here that Mike Jeffrey used CC to grind his cams to HIS specs, so it's not like they don't have access to some good data. Go figure.

If the cam is a Comp grind you can bet the lobe profile is designed around a Chevy .841 diameter lifter.
The one advantage that Mopar engines have is the .904 diameter lifter allows for a steeper ramp angle on the cam lobe.
When ordering reground or new performance cams if you are not investigating the lifter diameter that the lobe profile can handle you are leaving something on the table. Chevy have the smallest lifter diameters. Fords are larger than Chevy but smaller than a Chrysler lifter.

I'm aware of the different lifter diameters and the ramifications of them. I'd bet Comp DOES have some steep ramp lobe masters even though they are not reflected in their off the shelf grinds for the slant 6. That's what makes it interesting to me. Are they going to recommend the 264S or a real custom grind? I am sure the are capable of grinding a well designed cam for the slant 6.
Bear in mind Tony was clear that this is a budget build, not an all out, high dollar effort. So far the entire car could be built with a little money, some ingenuity and a lot of elbow grease. I like the project.

I just finished watching his 10-part home rebuild series. Having never taken a motor apart myself, I personally found it well worth watching. For me it's very valuable to just to see what it looks like and how the parts fit together. It's also nice to get tips on how to do things, for example how to roll the rocker arm up onto the springs, how much silicone or lube to use, etc. You can see way more in a video than a series of photos.

But don't worry: before I rebuild my slant I'll be consulting here as well as reading Doug Dutra's book. I also have theBoxWrench DVD which seems pretty good.

I agree with you on the step by step video learning versus pics in a book. Hands on all the way for me. I've rebuilt three engines and one 904 transmission. Each time I had an experienced friend guiding me and looking over my shoulder.

That BoxWrench DVD is a tad pricey as of late...
