I'm about to reinstall the oil pan in my slant, and there are some products (gasket in a tube) that claim to make a stamped gasket in this application unnecessary. Any thoughts, experience, product recommendations appreciated.

I have used a standard gasket set, used Peramatex High Tack on the cork gasket with a good dollop of RTV Black in the four corners with good results. Go over the mounting surface of the sheet metal parts, mainly at the bolt holes with a light hammer to get them flat.
Make sure the surfaces are clean and free of residual oil film and follow the directions for the High Tack and the RTV and do not over torque the bolts or you will squeeze the cork gasket out of position.
The issue with the gasket maker in a tube is that if you ever need to disassemble the parts sealed with that product you will: damage- distort - destroy the sheet metal part in disassembly.
