How long should the light be illuminated at a cold start-up? It does not come on during operation or warmed up idle. Stock motor with no modifications. My guess is mid-60's original miles but a lot of time sitting. Thanks - gpk1961

Two things that can affect that are the existence or not of the factory stand pipe in the the oil filter base, and the existence/operation of the factory flap valve there in.

My own experience has been that with these in and functional it typically nets oil idiot light shut off in under two seconds, and complete failure or absence of these can take that up as high as ten seconds.

Thanks, Old6rodder -- it averages 2-3 seconds...but every once in a while it will stay on a bit longer. gpk1961

It will be a good idea to service the oil pressure relief valve to make sure it's not stuck partway open, as described in these two threads: thread 1, thread 2.
