I'm stuck! How do I choose flywheel bolts? I called ARP and said,
"Slant six with a stock '64 Dart 122-tooth flywheel and a Centerforce DF228035 pressure plate."
The guy said, "Call Centerforce?" (I mean, I don't blame him. I don't know how thick the flywheel is, offhand, so I couldn't tell him.)

Before I call Centerforce (and they say "Call Stellantis?" ), how do I pick flywheel bolts? Is it just a matter of counting the holes in the pressure plate and measuring the thickness of the flywheel? (The flywheel will be drilled for the pressure plate pattern.)

Do I want ARP #240-2801? (Threads are 7/16-20; UHL is 0.875".)

Yes those are the right bolts.
I run a tap into the crank flange to make sure there are no boogers.
I also locktite the bolts and torque them.
Clutch and pressure plate really don't matter for fitment.

"call center Force? That makes no sense. The bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank aren't the ones that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel. How would center Force know?

Ugh. Sorry, gents. I had my terminology wrong.

It makes sense that the crank-to-flywheel bolts don't care what pressure plate you're using; I'm actually looking for pressure plate bolts. *slaps forehead* So, uh... any ideas on how one selects those? (Let me see if I can fix the title of the thread...)

They are 5/16" coarse thread. Get high strength bolts and torque them well (+5 ft-lbs over spec at least) and use loctite. I get 12 pt heads for wrench clearance, and/or if you use a 10" (scalloped bolt holes) PP.

I even put washers under the bolt head, then a washer on the backside and a grade 8 nut. I don't recall the exact length, but 1.25" sounds right. You could also get them longer and cut them to length.

Yes, I used those bolts originally on the Al flywheel on the 64 Dart. I have a bunch of spares if you want some!

Yeah maybe, I dont want to reduce your lifetime supply!

I think I have been going through and drill / helicoiling mine, but the clutch and things have been in/ out so many times on the '64 that they are starting to get a bit tired and stressed already.

Thanks! You just use flat washers, right? (Some ARP kits come with chamfered washers, but it looks like your McMaster bolts don't have a shoulder.)

Flat grade 8 hardware store washers. Put the smooth side (of the stamping) toward the bolt head.
