If I recall correctly. @ .430 lift and 210 duration at .050. Yes, a small lawn mower cam. :D

The cam wasn't so much the lift as the duration, and timing events. It was not conducive to low end torque. And as stated, the "performance" torque converters of the day were not very efficient. Basically a stock converter, that had the internal fins modified. The more stall speed the more slippage at all speeds.

Even Hyper Drag Racers have grass to cut.

I spoke to Henry (Hank) Bauman today.
Super nice guy, still remembers the car.
Here are the highlights of our conversation.
He had help from Chrysler on clutches.
He purchased the intake, carb, cam (Cheater) and a head from another racer.
He said Chrysler only made 50 intakes.
I had heard something like that, but seems low to me.
Maybe only 50 complete kits.
Car had a custom set of headers.
Dynoed at 160+ in the early 60's.
It ran Jahn 12.5 pistons.
They had 2 transmissions with different ratios.
Installed a Studebaker rear end, 2 different ratios. I thought he said one was a 5 something.
They let chevy stocker guys use the corvette four speed but never allowed him to use any 4 speed trans.
Ran right on the national record for class.
Like many of us he sold it during the Kids, Work, Life phase.
Doesn't know what became of the wagon.
I hope to keep the conversation going, maybe some other pearls of wisdom will show up.

I have a set, also.
Actually there were two different sets for the slant. one set for the 225 (what I have), and a set with a different compression distance for the 170 (much harder to find). If you try to run the 225 pistons in a 170 block, the dome will hit the head.

The HP cam wasn't even .500" lift, was it?

Stock cams:
232° intake, 228° exhaust, 8° overlap
240° intake, 236° exhaust, 16° overlap
244° intake, 244° exhaust, 26° overlap

Hyper Pak cam:
276° intake, 268° exhaust, 52° overlap. Yeah, that's not gonna idle below at least 1,000 rpm.
