There are also some good campgrounds between auburn and Hagerstown MD as well.

There is one just off of the Allen Road Exit Near Carlisle about 1 hour up the Highway from Mason Dixon Dragway
Walnut Bottom Campground. I stayed there last year during the Chrysler Carlisle Nationals.

As long is it is not the same weekend as some mega big event at Carlisle then there should be a spot to reserve.

Thanks for the heads up on the camping areas! It may have to wait till next year if I can't get the roll bar made in time. It would be tough to not be able to take it down the track. I'm waiting to hear back from one of the tech inspectors at Loring Timing Association to see what roll bar setup I would need to run there. I'm thinking a four point roll bar with 2 legs going to the back of the frame which would be extended for the roll bar and then a fifth leg going forward to the passenger floor area bolting to the frame. The whole thing would be bolted in so I can remove it for street driving.

Looks like I won't get to come play with all the slanted folks at Mason Dixon. I'm scheduled to work now on the 19th and can't make it on the 18th

Too bad. Due to low car count, it is possible it might be the last one?? Next year will require some hard decisions...

Looks like I never posted how the car did when I ran it at South Mountain in April. I will have to go find the timing slips in the truck but I was able to keep the car pretty consistent without stalling on launch. I can't remember what RPM I was launching at haha but it was pretty low maybe 1500. We only got 2 time runs so I didn't want to try anything else and stall at the tree and then be done for the day. I think I ran around 10.15-10.20s in the 1/8 which I feel could be better for such a light car. I definitely need to work on my reaction time and I'm sure the 60' times are not the best since I have a 3.23 rear end ratio. I did notice on the street if I try holding the brake to launch on the street the car starts pushing the front tires around 1500-2000 RPM. Maybe they will stay put better on a sticky race track haha. The tires are just bias ply all the way around too.

If the weather holds out for this weekend I am going to a test and tune Sunday at Maryland International Raceway Sunday to play around with settings and see what I can improve on and also to just have some fun running the car with no fear of losing and not being able to run anymore. Any tips on things to try adjusting besides timing while I am out there? I was going to bring a notebook and make notes after making one adjustment then right down the time slip info then make a different adjustment and see how it affects it. I figure my mixture screws should be fine by just setting them for the highest amount of vacuum at idle and shouldn't make much difference on the track right? I am noticing an issue if I give it a lot of gas coming out of a low speed turn it wants to stall unless i ease into the throttle. I am pretty sure I have the accelerator pump set on the lowest setting. it only has 2 holes and when i tried the other one i felt like it was a lot worse. Not sure if there is a way i can further adjust it on the Stromberg WW3 carb.

Any help is appreciated as I am new to drag racing and trying to learn as much as I can on tuning the car for optimal performance.

I went to go take a photo earlier of the accel pump setup to post here for reference and thought let me try the other hole again and it seemed to be improved this test drive. I did make some slight timing adjustments since last time i tried. I also think the engine may not have been fully up to operating temp yet the previous time i tried. This time it definitely was so hopefully I can improve my launch and 60' time now.

Car ran well but I only got 1 pass. The tech person I spoke with through email said the car would be okay without a roll bar since I was running low 10s in the 1/8 mile. The tech guy on site at first didn't want to pass me but the guy I spoke with through email and the track owner said as long as I didn't run faster than 10 seconds in the 1/8 I would be okay. First pass I cut my best light of .016 and ran a 15.467 @ 86 mph in the quarter and my fastest 1/8 mile time ever of 9.838@ 70.59 mph. I didn't want to push my luck with the tech guys so I didn't make any more runs. A roll bar is in the works and will be started on very soon. The funny thing is I accidentally put the shifter in the wrong position and only had 1st and 2nd gear.. I think I crossed the traps at about 4500rpm. Not sure if the car would have been faster if it had shifted to 3rd. Best part was I set my fastest times ever in the car and was able to drive it on the trailer with no issues. Now to start planning the roll bar so I can hopefully run at this track at the Mopar event on October 2nd.

Gene
