We spent a little time and gave the "How To Drag Race" article a little facelift.

The 2002 SSRN Points Season is comming-up fast, if you want to give Drag Racing a try, this article will help get you started.

Take a look and let us know what you think.

Doug, great information on 'How to Drag Race' I'm having my family and friends read it as we have a few novices chomping at the bit to get out on the strip after it thaws out. I'd add one comment about crossing the center line. Racers are to follow the rules and general protocol of not crossing the center line at any time or face disqualification. This is also true on the shutdown area and you are to let the car on the side of the turn off road to exit first and then you follow from the other side, regardless of how far ahead one is from the other. We've had Crazy Carl in his Corvette cut in front of my daughter who had to brake very hard to miss him. Another set of father/son Mustangs had the father cut in front of the son who couldn't stop and after rear-ending the father both totaled their 'Stangs by numerous bounces off the guard rails and each other.
Doug, thanks for performing a great service to S/L 6 owners and drivers by offering your expertise to us. Jack

Thanks for the input Jack, we will add the centerline and exit "protocall" info. , that is good to know about.

Anything else people see that should be added?
Help us tune-up this article, any other suggested additions, see anything that is confusing or just plain wrong?? Spot any typos or lay-out problems?
(We know about an incorrect link at the end which needs fixing)

Now is the time to get this article "sweet".

Great article DD i might have missed it but it is also inportant that when you put your dial in nomber on your car it is readable. Don't make ones look like sevens ect. Also when you start to stage make sure your dial in time is correct on the board. If it is incorrect get the starter attention before you stage and tell him the problem. Once you stage the dialin time is assumed to be correct and you cannot change it. Thanks Ron

OK racers, here is a question:
Two fast drag cars are at the starting line, both have about the same dial-in so it is pretty much a "heads-up start" kind of race.
Car #1 red lights at the start and backs-off the gas. (lifts)
Car #2 cuts a good light but looses tracion and slides accross the centerline into the other lane. Car #2 regains control, steers back into his lane and get's the win light.
Which Car "wins" this race and advances to the next round?

Car 2 would get the win, as car one had already sacrificed the race by redlighting, (and D/Qing himself).

What about the "first or worst rule"? Crossing the center line being the "worst" infraction.

Ok, Charlie, you may be right.....but it's a 50/50 chance you'll get it right....post your answer, rather than a discussion about the answer, and Doug will tell one of us we're wrong.

Doug I have always been told that the frist to break a rule was the frist to lose. My guess is car #2 is the winner.

DD car commited a first foul the second car was automaticaly d/q. Car no 1 wins. A foul is not a auto d/q

Car #1 is the winner. Under the "first or worst" crossing the centerline is always "worst". (At least according to the NHRA and IHRA)

Roger,

That was a question. I realy was not sure of the answer. I just knew of the rule, but not how it would be applied in this case.

You're right, Charlie.....I came on a bit strong, didn't I. My appologies. Looking at the rest of the string, and link, I'm a tad surprised that #1 gets the win. I thought the first infraction was D-Q'd during eliminations, other than the Double-Breakout rule.

DD- Does not matter if they are close in ET or 4 seconds apart...the infraction that is ranked worst by NHRA/IHRA loses. In this case it is crossing the center line. In the back of both rule books are a listing of infractions and the points value. I can email you the list if you need it.

A tougher one is this ( took up lots of bandwidth on DRR) If two cars run each other and Car one dials a 8.70 and car two dials an 8.69. Car one cuts a .499 red light and car two cuts a .497 red who loses under the current rules? Who leaves the tree first?
