Not to be philosophical here, but I have spent a couple of days going through what must have been 500 magazines.
What I did was keep any that had Slant Six Race cars in them.
I also cut out results and stories from Mopar Collector Guide concerning the Slant Six Racing Series.
A few observation, and excuse me if I am being Captain Obvious here.
We have lost quite a few of our family in the last 10 years.
There are quite a few who, while still around, don't get out anymore.
I know in the early, and mid 60's there was a ton of Slant Six activity and parts being made.
And I know many folks get busy and circumstances dominate what we can and can't do.
I am guilty of being on the side lines while many others carried the fight to the track.
I am now at a point in my life where I am going to try and be as active as I can be in the racing series.

Did we crest the last of many waves in Slant Six Racing?
Will there be another wave of interest?

To that point I plan on adding to this tread, stories and pictures of what I have collected.
Perhaps this will stir the fire and generate some new interest.
Hoping that 2021 will be the start of another wave.

If you are interested in these submissions, please let me know.
And feel free to post your own.
And reach out and talk to your racer friends.
Stay safe.

Please post as much as you want!

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but Slant racing as a series has a tough row to hoe. Cars are getting harder to find, parts are more expensive, and it's tougher to make a living than it used to be.

We do gain a few racers here and there, but time is creeping up on us older guys. I am not sure how much longer I will keep the Valiant, but I am hoping that when I retire in 4 years I will have more time to travel and play with it.

For what it is worth, this year I finally got a decent paying job, and I am starting to have time and money to actually work on my truck. Someday, I would love to get it to a racetrack just for laughs. It doesn't weight much more than an A body and has OK rear gears. Who knows, maybe next year it will see a track.

I love the history and nostalgia of Slant 6 (and all) racing! I'd love to see what all you have to share Stan.

My efforts to keep things going will be to try and get to an early 2021 race or two to try and re-set the A/Alcohol 1/8 and possibly 1/4 mile records held by Norm and Will. The Challenger is close to making the number on the 1/8 mile. Maybe a little harder on the 1/4 mile.

It looks like I have to move to Fort Bragg, NC near Fayetteville next summer, so I told Barry Harrison I would spend some time helping him with Six Pak. It dropped a valve and he could use some help with turning a wrench or two.

Norm sent me a photo and video of the 16 year old who now has his Dart (formerly Ron Parker's Slanted Attitude). I will post the link to the video. This is Ethan. He is part of the Next Generation of Slant 6 drag racer. His grandpa bought the Dart for him. They live near Atlanta, GA. They are keeping the car number Norm was using and plan to keep his name on the window as well. Grandpa plans to install a transbrake so Ethan can launch better. Hopefully we will see them at a race...

I will continue to support the racing, build faster Slant 6 cars, and come to races (drags and otherwise). I have been doing Slant 6 Drag Racing pretty consistently for 18 years, and running in different kinds of sanctioned race events for 25 years. Maybe everyone is sick of me by now!!

My guess is we will be back in full swing by mid summer. I will likely be focusing more on road racing and autoX as we go on, but I will do drags too for sure.

Lou

Not a chance Lou! :D :D

I hope we can all have a good year next year! Go a little faster!! :D :D

Stan I love seeing the old pictures and articles!

Looking at where we have been makes me really thankful for all that Seymour, Doug....and others did to revitalize Slant 6 racing in the late 90's!

I hope to run a 12.70 in the new year! :D :D

I am still scanning the info, found another Nitto story and a slant six econo bucket today.
I think when some new blood starts to post we will had made some inroads.

And I tip my hat to all those who have come before us, they paved the way.

Hey, Hyper: Who's bucket is it that you found? Mine, or the guy from Indiana?

All we can do is show up and enjoy ourselves.
Our passion will draw in new people and the cycle will continue.
The one positive thing to come from 2020 is that I have had the time to make significant progress on my car.
I hope to do my part and show up in 2021 (and beyond). No one can see the passion from behind my shop doors.

I was incorrect in my description.
Dick Sappington, in SoCal.
It's a HAMB 1924 Overland Six Touring Car.
Slant with 3 SU carbs.
The Flyin' Brick II.

Got a lot scanned, they are quite big files. I will see what I can get done.
Here are a couple of the mindless ones.

It has been 7 years since I last raced one of our cars. During that time the local track dropped drag racing and is only doing circle track, drift and auto cross. Stuff that i am not interested in. West coast racing has imploded due to California burning to the ground and general disinterest. The closet tracks are now 1 to 3 hours away, so they become an adventure to get too.

I haven't driven my Dart in 3 1/2 years. What started as a engine rebuild morphed into a general restoration. Maybe this year I will get it running. We sold a Duster and bought a Duster. The new Duster runs, but is not streetable. In another month or 2, I will have acquired the parts needed to finish it. There is a limited budget for cars, and having 2 just slows things down.

When done, racing, maybe. We'll see.
