If you had to choose 4 out o the 6 cylinders to record data in which ones would you use?

I would Think 1, 2, 4,6, then interpolate that data to assume tuning strategies for 3,5 from data provided from cyl's 2,4?

Is it even a worry if you have ITB's ?

Whaddya Think?

Greg

Nice question, Greg.

For symmetry, you want 1 from each symmetric pair. So, you could do 1, 2, 3 or 1, 5, 3 and then roll the dice for the last one. Cyl 1 tends to run hottest due to the coolant path, so best to read that one for sure as a worst/hottest case. I would probably pick 6 as the 4th one so I could get a cooler version of cyl 1.

Maybe the 4th one after the collector.
Might give a clue if something was too far off with one of the un-monitored cylinders.

EDIT: my aging brain read this as AFR not EGT. So, nevermind...

Can you get 2 extra sensors and plumb all 6?

Then you can figure out which 4 make the most sense...........

If I had to do this I would use cylinders 1,3, 5 and 6. #1 for the same reason Lou stated, it's hottest, and it's also the furthest uphill. #3 as it and #4 have the straightest 'look' at a single carburetor, but you probably only need to sample one of them. #5 (or #2) as it's in the middle of a group of 3. #6 as it''s the farthest down hill and has the coldest combustion chamber. This is essentially what you settled on except I chose #5 instead of #2 as plenum manifolds can sometimes run the rear cylinders rich and this setup samples 2/3 of the front and rear.

Yes and yes. I have more areas to slice and dice that I have not even touched yet.

That is how I would handle this if I had to - but any individual cylinder could develop a problem. If I were going for EGT, I'd spring for a system that could watch all the cylinders.

Is there such a system that would datalog / interface with MS3?

If so I might be swayed to use that one instead of the original stand alone that I was shopping on.
