I'd be up for another Zoom meeting like last year.

Dan, Dennis, and all,

Those of us who always run this thing had a discussion offline and decided we do not see the point of a banquet this year. The race turnouts were so low in 2022, and we only had 10 banquet participants last year, even though it was online and easy.

We are looking at having perhaps 2 races in the East this year, and likely no "points series." Thinking about maybe Clay City and Hagerstown races?

I hope others in the organizers' crowd will chime in. It has been a great 25 years of racing, and we hope to continue in some way. If interest picks up again, we can certainly do more races. As it is, there are several of us doing a fair bit of work for little or no attendance at races and/or little interest in other activities.

Thanks for reading, happy Slanting, and we welcome input!

Lou

It has been a pretty dismal turnout this year for various reasons.

Us Young guys 25-45 Years old have families consuming more and more time and there have not been new folks coming in to help out recently. Some of the older well known racers and supporters of 5-15 years ago have passed on or are no longer active / interested, and the tumultuous last 2 years did not help with various restrictions and costs.

My Suggestion was to have the banquet in Tennessee this year, but as Lou has stated there was lack of enthusiasm and attendance for both racing and banquets last year for various reasons which makes it difficult to justify the effort, personal time contribution and cost to make it all happen.

As always, I appreciate all the work of the race organizers, track owners and sponsors.
Thanks Rob for keeping track of all the points and season recaps.
Thanks Ryan and Seymour for keeping track of the Records.
Thanks Rick and Lou for all the helpful things you guys do.

I sure hope hope things will change, but it is unlikely.

Please chime in if you have any other thoughts or ideas.

Thank you, Greg

We have all seen this coming for awhile now. Unfortunately, with the pandemic and economic issues the last few years, it has accelerated the decline of participation.
(That means people ain't showin' up like they used to, Cookie)

I have not been able to participate as much as I would like for various reasons and this year will not be any better. Not due to lack of interest or enthusiasm, just life.

I will continue to keep records and try to offer any commentary I am able to get from race coordinators, etc.

I would like to still have at least an on-line banquet/meeting. If 10 show up, that's 10 Slant 6 folks getting together that wouldn't otherwise. It is also the opportunity to vote on and make decisions about the series. And this year seems like some pretty big decisions are coming.

Gimme a nickel & you'll get three pennies back fer that schtuff.

If there are people interested in Getting together for this year I can put together some things as I have in the past for the banquet.

I susected it was because of the poor year, but didn't want to come out and say it since I'm only on the fringe.....

I would be fine with that, too.

I'm happy to participate in an online banquet this year.

Also, I acknowledge that I totally dropped the ball on trophies/plaques for last year. It is possible I can do both sets this year, assuming my administrative load at work does not continue crushing my motivation into dust for logistical stuff like this. I *feel* that in about a month, I will be in a better place with work... :?

I think that would be nice also. Perhaps push it out to the end of March sometime?

I’m good with meeting in person in Tennessee or somewhere else, or on Zoom. It would be nice to talk to you all and brainstorm about the future of racing. I plan to get the 5 speed in the race car and run 10s on gas…..or scatter pieces all over the track trying. Lol. I’d hope to get the chance to do that at a slant 6 event this year. Even if we only have one or 2 races on the schedule, it will still be fun. Life has been super busy for me and having all my cars in pieces made this year rough but I think we can get stuff together and have some fun.

One thing I’ve noticed in the RC racing world, is that guys like trophy races. Points series don’t seem to have the same draw as a single big event. So 2 big trophy races with all our effort going into that could be a good thing for us moving forward. Race/slanted swap meet. Or race/annual banquet where we can eat food, do some awards and talk mopars and hangout a weekend. I think we can keep keep racing/meeting up, it just won’t look the same as it did for the last 25 years.

I would like a personal get together, myself. I'm not able to do online meetings. I was hoping to get one or two races in this year. However, most of you know the situation with my wife's health, so a lot depends on my being able to have someone stay with her.

I like the idea of "trophy races" as Ryan says. 2 big races we promote and get people to come from far and wide. Good purses, maybe special awards... We could still set records at those races, IMHO, with small rule changes (assuming we don't do points). I think my local track racers also don't care about points much. They want to come to a special event with something cool and different, like "No prep."

I also like the in-person banquet, but it is a lot of work and stress for those who organize it and run it, and not many are willing to do much work. I am sorry I am not in a good position to host one this year, and it turned out last year also became very tough for me.

Zoom works for me.
I enjoy the get togethers.
For me I will just go back racing my slant at local tracks like I did decades ago.
