I have a 1965 Dart with a Slant 6. I have found an 8 1/4 rear differential that I would like to put in and get rid of the stock (whinny)
7 1/4. Will the 8 1/4 fit? Do the drum break backing plates match up and bolt onto the 8 1/4? Any help and input would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Depends on what model vehicle the 8 1/4 was in

No the 7 1/4 rear barkes will not swap over.

The 8 1/4 will be large bolt pattern where the 7 1/4 was small bolt pattern.

what vehicle was the 8 1/4" axle originally from? That will be the big factor here.

realistically only A or F/J/M Bodied donor cars axles will work, but with the flat rear wheel arch openings the F/J/M Axle will require a high positive offset / nonstock wheel.

I run a '69 Road Runner in my '64 Dart - it's is a bit too wide - I will be switching it to a '67 Satellite Rear axle someday.

Good luck,

Greg

I installed an 8 1/4 assembly in my 1972 Valiant. Not sure what it came out of. It's a bit wider.
