I all. I have a '64 Signet w/push button auto. I get a shudder when ever there's torque on the tranny like going up hill or accelerating on level surface or up hill. Doesn't seem to be a problem going down hill or when not accelerating. Stopped and talked to a tranny. guy and he says it's not torque converter shudder because Chrysler didn't use clutches in the t/c until something like 1968. I've got new Ujoints so and fresh fluid and filter in the tranny. Any ideas ?? Also, whats the recommended fluid to use in one of these A904's ?

Thanks,
Jeff

Often this condition is caused by a worn-out front ball-and-trunnion front universal joint housing. You have new U-joints; exactly what was done to the front U-joint? New housings are available, but they are costly and not easy to source; the better fix is the cross-and-roller conversion.

Oh thank god, someone else has experienced the same drama I've had for the last TWO yrs...

Check list - timing, u-joints, trans, compression, tires, torque converter.....

Sorry to say that I haven't done anything. Was told by a different tranny guy that he believes it's the clutches in the tranny. Car is setting in the garage for now waiting to yank the tranny for a rebuild. Wife recently got laid off so that puts a big dent in the fun money :(

Is it the tranny mount? Did you check the ball & trunion for slop? I had the pin in the ball and trunion shift over just a little and caused a vibe when I was accelerating.

Uh…how 'bout trying the (much) easier, (much) less costly stuff before going through the pain and expense of a transmission rebuild?

Just sayin'.
