I got me a 8 inch Ford rear awhile back. Just starting to work on it. Found some basic info, while doing research.
Mine still had the tag, and decoded to 1975-1977 Comet/Maverick (also 64-65 Falcon). Build date 8-4-75, 2.73 open. That has a width of 56.375 inches, spring perch width of 43 inch, 28 spline axles, brakes are 10x1 3/4 with a 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern.
Will be getting a 4.30 mini spool, for my 65 Valiant. Only $300 in it plus the brake parts. A lot cheaper the a 8 3/4.
There are quite a few 8 inch Ford rears that would work in a "A" body. Take your tape measure to the yard. Make sure you get the 5 lug rear from a V-8 car.

That’s what I have in the Duster with a 4.56 mini spool. Works great.

The first Duster we used a first gen Dakota rear. It was almost a bolt in as well.

Ditto, 4.56 & mini spool, in the 'Brick. Thinking about eventually going 8" for El Toad, but with the four spider version.

I was supprised at how many different vehicles had 8 inch rears that would work. Several models with only about 1 inch difference in total width (don't know about spring perchs). 56 3/8, 56 7/8, and 57 3/8 are some I found.
Just ordered brake parts, axle bearings, and seals from Rockauto. I am on hold with Summit for long wheel studs, as I'm typing this.

I put an 8" in my '72 Dart. Didn't even have to shorten the driveshaft, but that may have been because the oval track leaf springs I used pushed the axle back 1/2". The 28 spline axles are my only concern.

Yep. Maverick 8" in my Project V since 2003. Perfect width and no driveshaft cutting with stock 904 and rear springs.

Seems like a skookum affordable package for our cars.

Thanks Guys.

I have heard of FYI - I thought maybe JFI was some sort of Option or Ford Production code Like 2JZ, LS3, A833, RG, AHB or something like that.

Still learning new stuff every day.

You people running 8 inch Fords, what did you use for wheel studs? I can't seem to find long studs with the correct size knurl (.545). I would rather not drill the holes oversize, for a larger knurl, if I don't have to.

Mine had the longer studs when I bought the Duster from Norm ages ago. Sorry.
