Yeah, I saw those ARP studs, but I'll be dammed if I'm going to pay more for 10 studs, then the complete brake job, including drums. $12 each. Time to get out the drill, and use Mopar studs.

Remember, I'm "frugal" (cheap)

My '73 Swinger had a 8-inch when I got it. I think the Toyota 8-inch is good too, some have the 5 x 4.5 inch(114.3 mm) pattern - some have six bolt "chevy" truck pattern - or Nissan truck etc, but I believe axle shops can make new shafts as the Toyota rear ends are popular for off-roading. I think the 2WD Toyota trucks use the 5 lug wheels, the 6 lugs are 4WD

I have the 5 on 4.5 pattern on my 86 Toyota 1 ton single rear wheel, 2 wd. I would concur, that it is a good rear. Never had a problem with it, in over 400,000 miles, and towing my racecar. 5 speed stick. Have been on the scale at just under 5 tons total.

There's 2 versions of the Toyota 8" axle.

A 4 pinion (aka V6 and turbo 4) and 2 pinion (aka 4 cyl).

Not sure if the 1 ton axle is a 2 or 4 pinion.

Most of the 2wd toyota's were 7.5"

Not sure what is in mine, 1986 one ton PU 2 WD 22RE 5 spd. rear ratio is 4.30 All I know is it is/was a great truck, and I would buy another one in a heartbeat, if they still made them. I got 18 mpg towing and 25 mpg empty on the hiway. Never had the head off. Had the pan and timing cover off, to do 3 timing sets (plastic guides would break).

Yeah, the old Toyotas are good trucks. Most are pretty beat up now.

Apparently Toyota trucks with a VIN starting with JTX where X = "G" has an 8-inch. "JTF" would be 7.5-inch.
