I responded to an ad for a free to a good home feather duster. It was in Baltimore and I'm in Canada.

The car is extemely rough and rusty but complete and real.It has 340 000 miles on it now, 1000 of those on the way home. I had one break down. the plastic cog on the dist. stripped. Got a cab to junk yard and back cost me $50 and I was back on the road.

Below is the story I posted in the forum where I got the car I think you guys might find it interesting!

It was an normal trip to the border crossing in Houlton ME. from Baltimore MD. I was leaving the USA but had to
pick up the title at US customs ( this is procedure and had done it 100% right , with Dr. M's help).

The customs guy looks at the title and car , all is in order but........... He says to me I have a US car with NS
Canada plates on it. I tell him that is the way we do it in Canada and to best of my knowledge correct as I can
be for what I'm doing.

He then says something like "your in the united states of america now boy"

He sends me into their waiting room with instructions to sit there and don't move till he is done a routine
inspection??????????

The I hear him on the phone to someone saying things like "I have the driver" "wrong tags on the vehicle" " no
inspection sticker" and more stuff like unsafe etc..

The customs guy called the MAINE STARE TROOPERS on me! Couldn't find anything else better to to but
hassle me for no apparent reason , after all I'm 500 ft from Canada and LEAVING the US.

The Trooper shows up after a long and painful wait. I'm thinking now I'm really in trouble as customs called in the
troopers they probably HAVE to do something to me?????????

The trooper wants me to come outside and look at the car with him.. The car does look bad to say the least! His
first question was "You flew to Baltimore to get a $100 car?" My response was yes and it really was a gift to me
from Dr. M. not a $100 purchase. Dr. M wanted the car to go to someone who would appreciate it as he had
since 77.

I had all my papers in order such as insurance and papers for the plates on the car. I then tell him that this no
regular duster and show him the build sheet ( with feather duster in black ink on the bottom). The trooper looks
at me........ then the car and says something like A feather duster? Don't they have aluminum inner panels, a 4
spd as opposed to an auto or 3 spd. and maybe an aluminum engine part ( intake manifold)?

I said yes that's correct ( shocked that anyone knew what it was besides me and Dr. M!!!!!!) He then tells me he
is a dodge guy, loves old cars and even waves to all the other dodges on the road. He looks at my NS drives
licensee and says hey you are even my age.

He says customs called him and his drug dog . He has to put the dog through the car . I say you have heard my
story do what you have to I have nothing to hide...............go for it. He says to me that i'm getting screwed here
and implied that he was going to help!

After searching the car and finding nothing, he asked customs if all the papers were in order ( yes!) and that I
was getting an unneeded hassle. They were holding me up. He then told customs that if they had listened to my
story " that nobody could possibly make up" That they would not have needed to call him in.

I'm sent on my way and sail through canada customs ( though if there was going to be a hassle it would be
there? I'm entering the country this time.)

Luck who knows? a MOPAR guy trooper! It left a bad taste for US customs, they were looking for
trouble???????? I know the trooper tuned them for wasting his time after we left too! All I can say is the
experience was positive and turned out well but........it could have gotten worse real fast......I'm thankful for that
and so was the guy traveling with me! he had no idea it was going my way till the trooper had his say at the
end!

I now need a rust free 75 or 76 duster body (I might be able to use a dart sport) If anyone happens to have one or sees one. please let me know.

The more complete the better but I just need a good starting point to use for the duster build up!

thanks Sandy

Sandy, good score and price, how complete is the car and are your deck lids in good (not rusted through) shape?
If you need a hull any Duster 73-76 would provide a good host for your parts.

more later,

The trunk lid is ok, the hood is toast. it had hood pins and it has stress crack in the aluminiumoverall in very poor shape.

I know my dusters pretty well( I had a dart lite too)The 73 body is too different to make into a 76. The rear where the bumper attaches is totally different. The quarters are even shaped different for the filler panel rubber.

Sticking to a 75-6 is easier to pull off. Been there done that!

Sandy,

Maybe you should change your handle to "Duster Nutcase" for a while...

Good luck with the resurrection.

I can appreciate the car Mother Mopar was building 'light as a feather' but why did they have to give it a name which sounds like a maids tool! ;<)

As long as the story doesn't end with "and thank god he didn't find all the bodies in the trunk and the splosives (terroests, cia drug money, Buddy holly, elvis, jimmy hoffa (etc.)" it's all good! congrats on the score!
