Mark,

You are still amazing. I want your motor.

My 3rd pass on new Project V motor was starting to not suck:

1.999 60 ft
9.07 @ 75 in 1/8th
14.38 @ 91 in 1/4

Lou

I'll try to summarize the 60' times. Please correct any errors you find and update with the new information requested. Just as the 1/4 & 1/8 mile times.....copy and paste the list with your new times posted and highlighted!

Also, some might find it helpful if you include: Tire type & size, rear gear, and if it is a stick or auto trans.

For those of you who have new combos, please indicate if the combo has been retired.

Guzzie Mark, you have a bunch of times. I'm not sure what your new best is but I do have a place holder in for you.

Guzzi Mark is throwing down the guantlet on 60' times so to try to stay in the game I decided to try putting a Cal Tracs set up on the blue Valiant. The boxed in spring mounts and relocated rear axle added some complications, but we finished the installation today. I got their mono-leaf springs and Rancho shocks too. It raised the rear of the car another inch or so that I did not need but otherwise it looks pretty awesome. I can't wait to try it out.

My best 60' with leaf springs was 1.495 which will be hard to beat but it only produced those sorts of numbers on tracks with really sticky starting lines. On many other occasions it would break loose and/or hop. More consistent low 50s would be welcome. We will see how this works.

I had the pleasure of watching Mark's car leave out at MATS. It is without a doubt the nicest leaving N/A leaf spring car I've seen in the Slant ranks.

Went to test and tune at Rock Falls Raceway in Eau Claire, WI today. It was hot and muggy but the air was not as bad as it felt, about 3,500'. This was my first time out with the Cal-Traks suspension. I was generally satisfied with how it worked. The 60' times were 1.57-1.58 quite a bit off my best with leaf springs but at least a .10 better than I had ever been able to do at this track before. Maybe on a better day at a better track it will do better. Most important it was more consistent and more fun to drive, it just didn't seem to leave as hard as leaf springs on a good track. We tried several different shock settings and bar adjustments but nothing made a dramatic difference. Best run was 11.67 at 112MPH. I will race again at Brainerd on July 10-12 to get ready for the Western swing in August.

A guy came up to me and said his Father used to run a Slant 6 with Webers in an Anglia. Sure enough it was Gary Fenice the son of Art who had helped the Cox Brothers get started. Art died a few years ago and was one of the most successful Slant 6 racers in NHRA competition back in the sixties. Gary runs a garage up in Moose Lake, MN and races a 63 Plymouth in Nostalgia Super Stock. I had stopped in to see him about three years ago and it was fun to be racing with him.

Seymour sent me a race report from his race at Brainerd, MN a couple weekends ago...

Quote:
The 60’ times on both the Sunday runs were 1.555, the best I have seen so far with the new suspension set up.

Quote:
I put the second battery in the car and topped off the gas tank so the car weighed more like 2300#.
