Post subject:  Woodburn 9 August

Here are the results from the Woodburn race on 9 August. The 10 August race was cancelled. :(

Walt Skoczylas won the three round race in his "HAMB" style racer. I forget the exact name right now. It's the automatic verson of the HA/GR car.

CJ sent me a PM telling me about the great food everyone fed him this time...

Quote:
Walt Skoczylas won the SSRN race Saturday.
Runner up was Dave Mueller.
Mike (Bjerklund) made the semi.
6 racers competed.

First round CJ (Stoakes), Doug (Powers), and Richard (Bjerklund) were eliminated due to breakouts.

2nd round Dave had the bye.
Walt won the second round, eliminating Mike.
All rounds were by breakout. Interesting day.
Dave's car broke out in the final by 3/10,000ths.

Jerry cooked fresh caught crab and did a London Broil after the races.
Dee made fresh potato salad in their 5th wheel Saturday.
Linda provided fresh cantaloupe and iced tea.
Mike & Beth brought a big pasta salad. It was excellent!

Post subject:  Medford Race Cancelled

The Killer Bees' Medford race scheduled for 22-23 August was cancelled. :(

The rest of this season is going to be a ping pong affair with races bouncing back and forth between the East Coasters and the Killer Bees.

Next up on the list is the East Coasters' Bristol race this weekend.

Then it's back to the West Coast for the Redding race 6-7 September.

Clay City 27-28 September

Redding 4-5 October

Hagerstown 11-12 October

The Killer Bees are having a tough year with 4 races cancelled at Woodburn and Medford. Will they be able to put together enough rounds at the remaining races at Redding to allow a Killer Bee a chance at the Championship? Wendy Pine stands the best chance right now in the number two spot with 70 points behind leader Ron Hamby with 110.

Wendy will have to win some rounds at Redding to be a serious threat. She has two race weekends left while Ron has three remaining.

The next closest threat to Ron Hamby is the Covalt Clan Patriarch, Rick Covalt who is tied with Wendy Pine at the number two spot.

Rick doesn't plan to attend Bristol, but Clay City might be an option. Hagerstown is his home track, but he may be a bit distracted since he hosts that race. Hagerstown is the last race of the year and is where Ron Hamby made a remarkable push to steal the Championship from Killer Bee Andrew Howard last year.

If I were a betting man I'd put my money on Ron Hamby winning his 5th National Championship in 2014.

I'm Rob "Snagglepuss" Simmons, your Slant 6 "Laff-A-Lympics" Drag Racing commentator, updating you and making a prediction or two for our 2014 season.

Thanks, Rob! You sort of have an acronym going there:

Rob
International
Slant 6
Drag Racing
Commentator

RISSDRC

Speaking for the East, we have 6 races to go over 2 weekends (each weekend has one Crossville makeup race). Ron and Kay Hamby have a decisive lead, but anything can happen with all these races left to go.

See a buncha ya at Clay City...

Post subject:  Redding Results added

Here are the results from the Redding race on 6-7 September.

Rookie Glen Ambacher takes over the Number 2 spot and both Frank Wright and Andrew Howard climb into the top 10.

The next race of the 2014 season is Clay City. One of the rained out Crossville races will also be run that weekend, so a full race weekend with three chances at climbing the ladder.

Points leader Ron Hamby had some engine trouble at Bristol a couple weeks ago, so he is likely in a mad thrash to get ready for Clay City in order to defend his number 1 spot.

Here's the updated Leader Board:

Hey guys just wanting to ask... CAN I DO THE TROPHIES again for the banquet??? I hope you say I can since I've already started working on them! I loved getting to do them last year and think everyone will really like what I'm scheming for this year.

Post subject:  Clay City and Crossville Make Up Races

The Clay City and first Crossville Make Up race happened this weekend out in Kentucky.

I have the points mostly tallied, but am waiting confirmation on a couple records being set.

In the meantime... Look here for the blow by blow. The racing action starts around page 5.
http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56088

Points leader, Ron Hamby, was not able to attend (see first post on page 5).

That left the door open for two other East Coasters and Team Green driver, Rusty Heisten, to get around him.

Two time National Champion, Rodney Hargis, is our new leader with 155 points. His lead may grow by another 20 points once I confrim that he set a record at Clay City.

He is followed closely by Lukus Bruner with 150 points.

Team Green driver, Rusty Heisten, is tied with Ron at 140 points. Word has it that he also submitted a record run at Clay City, so he may jump up another 20 points as well.

All of these points leaders have competed in 5 or more races, so I still have to calculate the "Best 5" points as well.

As soon as I get confirmation on the records and calculate the "Best 5" I will post an official update.

More to follow...

Very interesting! Hope this encourages some more road miles North in about 10 days! What record was Rodney going after?

Post subject:  Hold the Presses!!

I reviewed the rules and calculated the points through this past weekend...

Quote:
Total round win points will be counted for up to five Slant 6 points events for each driver. If you participate in more than five points events you will be credited with the points earned at your five best races.

The only person that has won rounds at more than 5 races is Rodney Hargis...

That means he gives up round win points at one of his races...

And THAT means that he has 10 less points...

And THAT means that Lukus Bruner is our current points leader with 150 points!

Quote:
Your car is in the pits and is entered in the Slant 6 bracket race, for each race entered: 5 points. Attendance points will be capped at 60 points per season. These points include regular scheduled races, rained out races, and rescheduled races.

No one has reached the 60 point cap on attendance points yet. Rodney is at 45 right now, so even if he attends Mason-Dixon and they hold the second Crossville make up race, he will just make the cap and not lose any points.

Quote:
Twenty bonus points will be awarded to any driver that sets or breaks a SSRN record at any official Slant 6 race. This 20 points will only be awarded once per year per driver. Records must be sent to Seymour Pederson for validation prior to bonus points being awarded.

There have been no official records posted yet this season. Here is Seymour's response to my PM

Quote:
I don't have the paperwork yet, but I saw the two runs the Lancer made on Saturday in the 1/8 mile time trials where they set the record for B/A at 6.98 I believe. Rodney was going to add weight to his car and try to set the open D/G 1/8 mile record on Sunday, but I wasn't there. I left the record forms with Mark and Rodney.

So,... If Rodney wants his third National Championship... He may wanna git that paperwork back to Seymour here purdy quick!

If Rusty wants a shot at his first National Championship he might want to get his in as well... AND make plans to race at Mason-Dixon! :D

Ron Hamby certainly has more important things on his mind right now, but I'm sure he would like to make it to Mason-Dixon and give another last race push in hopes of keeping that National Champion trophy and adding his name to it for a 5th time!

So, the end of the 2014 racing season is shaping up to be about as dramatic as last year! Most folks thought that Andrew Howard had clinched the Championship by attending and winning rounds at almost every Killer Bee race! Ron Hamby struggled with engine trouble most of the season, but made a last hard push at Mason-Dixon (against two time National Champion, Rodney Hargis) to win his fourth Championship.

This year we could have a 4 Way battle at the last race of the season!

Lukus Bruner 150
Rodney Hargis 145

Rusty Heisten 140
Ron Hamby 140

I want to add the "Over 5" and Performance Index stats to this next update, so that takes a little more work to get it entered on the Forum. I've got three big briefings tomorrow and Friday, but I'll try to get the updated Leader Board posted ASAP.
