Quite possibly, but they're a lot harder to bench test as they rely on motion to generate a voltage. VR sensors generally work better with pointy toothed trigger wheels, though.

With no teeth there will come only very small signal if any. Also the singal output will be more sinus wave shaped than a good trigger signal because slow distance change.
If "any" signal exists with vr-sensor on pump cam the signal amplitude will be speed depending.

A hall sensor is ideal for that because it makes static signal near magnetic material. Sensor location can be adjusted and tested w/o engine running.

I'm about to do this on my motor. How has yours been running with this cam sensor setup Matt? How critical is the exact position vertically or the thickness of the plate? Not sure how forgiving the gap requirement is.

Haven't had the chance to fire the motor up yet, but I will post details when I do. The main "gotcha" is that you don't want the plate so thin the sensor hits the cam. The sensor's ideal gap is 1 to 2 mm.

My plate appears to be a bit thicker then yours but pics can be deceiving. Accurate measurement may be a challenge with the motor in car / pan on to know that the lobe is at its closest point.

I believe Matt's engine is running with this setup. I have this on my Valiant too, but have not turned on the cam sensor (sequential) function yet.

Currently running but not using the cam sensor. Will test it sooner or later - right now I need to solve a problem with the brake lights first.

This mod is very interesting .
Do you have any idea how thick your block off plate is ?
Would the 1 to 2mm be at the highest point on the lobe ?
Knowing the block off plate thickness would make things a whole lot easier , or even what brand you used .

I used a parts store Mr. Gasket plate - about 0.100-0.120" thick (eyeballin'). Yes, 1 mm is with the lobe as close as it can get to the sensor. Still have not turned mine on... :oops:

Thanks Lou.
Still trying to get my head around whether the sensor would still be trying to trigger even on he lowest point of the lobe .
If you know what i mean ?
Is there much height difference between highest and lowest point on the camshaft ?
Unfortunately the postage from DYI Autotune to Australia makes this very expensive .
I have found this one from EFI Hardware in Australia , i think going by there dimensions it could be the same sensor .

Still up there in price but cheaper than from the USA .
Has anyone actually turned there sensor on to see if it works under normal driving conditions ?

I am planning to use this cam sensor idea but modified. Will do a drill hole to cam fuel pump eccentric. Threaded it. Add a screw to the threaded hole with some Loctite. And read the screw head with a Cherry hall sensor. I am sure it works.
