Once you've convinced yourself you know all there is to know about spark plugs and motor oil, you move on to exhaust systems. Then, once you have that mastered, you move on to cams. Then, finally, you tackle intake runner design.

Once you are sure you know plenty about all those topics, you reach the higher realization that you know almost nothing - other than what others have told you. You realize that the few people who do know something aren't the ones doing the talking. That's when you learn the real best engine design is the one that runs well, doesn't leak, lasts long, and makes good power.
