Hi all,

I have my engine out of the car and have a new ECU module from JEGS hooked up. I have followed and double checked the diagram to ensure it is accurate. I have a keyed ignition from Auto Zone to turn on the starter and provide power to the coil. When I turn the key (which I grounded to the engine with wire), the engine kicks over, but I get no spark. I have tested my secondary wire (wire that comes out of the top of the coil) and read a resistance of 5,610. Any ideas why I am not getting any spark?

Sincerely,

Paul

How did you test that you are getting no spark?

Lou

Thanks for the thoughts guys,

Dart270, to test the spark I pulled the secondary cord (coil to distributor wire, is that the correct name?) And placed a scew driver into the other end. I held that close to a non painted metal surface and looked for a spark. I saw none.

Badvert65, you may have hit my problem. My ECU is mounted to a piece of aluminum which is then attached to a 4x4. It does not make physical contact with the engine. Now that said, there is a 5th wire that was noted in the included instructions as not being needed. I have a 5 pin plug, but am only using a 4 pin ECU. I attempted to attach the 5th wire (green in color) to the engine, but still saw nothing. Any thoughts here?

DusterIdiot, it is a keyed power yes. I belive it is marked off, ignition, and solenoid. I have no issue getting the engine to turn over and there aren't many wires so I think I'm good. I'd take a photo, but it's a bit of a mess to look at. I dId take a spare piece of wire and wrapped it around the keyed ignition to ground it to the engine.

With that info, would you guys recommend I attempt to ground the ECU to the engine and if so how would I do that? Just attach some wire to the aluminum backing plate then run it to a point on the engine?

Thanks again,

Paul

I HAVE SPARK!

Badvert65, you nailed the issue, thanks so much. I honestly thought that would be too easy of a fix. Now just to see if it will actually run.
