New to this forum. Recently started to pay closer attention to my wife's 1969 Valiant (she is the original owner) with the 225 slant six. Excuse my ignorance but i would like to know if the ballast resistor for the ignition system is the one mounted on the wiper motor. If not where would it be found? Thank you for helping out this Valiant novice, all advice much appreciated, Duke

No.....most of the resistors I've seen are mounted on the driver's side firewall, or driver's inner fender, close under the hood hinge. I'll admit that the resistor on the wiper, and the ignition resistor do look quite similar.
White or cream colored ceramic block, with a single electrical connection tab at each end. Held down by a single screw.

Welcome! No, but that's an easy mistake because the wiper motor resistor looks very much like the ballast resistor. You'll find the ballast resistor either on the firewall or on the driver's side inner fender.

As soon as you can, get the three books listed in this thread. You'll find tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this post, and carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. The engine requires periodic valve adjustment. You might also want to see this thread, as well as this one.

Not even close to interchangeable, no.
