Anyone tell me how hard it is to replace the ignition switch in my 85 D100. Doe not have tilt wheel.

I do have a FSM and for the life of me I can't find a procedure?? :D Wondering if the bottom plug has to have the wires taken out to get it into the column? Thanks for any help.

No such info is in my FSM under the "steering column" that I can find. Oh, it is probably there somewhere, I just can't find it!

If its like a 79 f body which it probably is...

The switch itself is activated via a lever down the column.

The ignition key and steering wheel lock assembly are involved to replace.

Column gets removed and all the guts and shafts come out then the top column can ( above the shifter can if it's a column shift) is removed to get to the 2 screws that hold the ign key assembly in there.

non tilt will be like doing a 70s column. I have one here that I need to put into my 85, too. It has lost its "springiness" and return when released
Even as new as 88 w/o tilt, were the same process as the 72 Fury wagon column that I had apart about 6 weeks ago. I also had to pull a ignition key lock out of an 88 Ramcharger w/o tilt once, a few years ago/ and even it was stiil the same. No rod down the column. Ignition switch directly engaged by hole on back side of key tumbler 2 screws hold it to column tube. Long wiring pigtail extends down the column along the bottom side. Those years, only the tilt columns had the bottom mount switch activated by a rod from the key tumbler area.

I replaced the ignition switch on the 83 D150 when I did the total rebuild on it, been a while and I don’t remember much about it, I will look tomorrow through my FSM and see what I can find.

Correct, no rod on the non tilt. Wondering if the wires need removed from the pigtail on the end to get them up through the column and out. Thanks

Should be able to twist connector so it's longway parallel to the column and pull the harness up thru column

Ok Thanks! That was my main concern.
