I have a 1979 Dodge D 150 with a slant six in her. I used to drive her years ago, but stopped cause she needed work done, and I didn't have the time to do it. Im having trouble with the starter. It only had one wire on it. Dont they have two? It has two studs on it, so it would have to have a wire for each one, wouldn't it? Its got a fused wire on the right stud, but nothing on the left. All help would be greatly appreciated.

The big starter terminal goes to the battery. The small starter terminal goes to the starter relay.

Thank you very much, Joshua. So its got two hot wires going into it? Cause the one from the battery is hot, too, isn't it?

The battery cable is at battery voltage. The other wire is only energized during cranking. You really should have a wiring diagram for your truck.

What I meant to say, it is the hot cable going to the starter. Am I right? Everything was wired up fine, but my lying, thieving cousin, who I let stay at my old place free of charge, stole most of my stuff, or took several things apart...that he wasn't supposed to bother

The big lug connects to battery positive. The smaller lug connects to your starter relay. Ground is routed through the starter housing, which is bolted to the engine, which is connected to battery negative through the negative battery cable. When both lugs have battery voltage (and the starter housing is properly grounded) the starter engages.
