I have a driver '62 valiant.. it has single speed wipers.

I acquired a car with variable speed wipers..would like to put the variable speed into my driver '62 valiant. Can this be done by just swapping the switch only or does both the motor and switch need to be changed to accomplish this properly?

Thanks!

Greg

Pretty sure you need to change both. My 64 Valiant has single speed wipers. I am going to convert to variable speed. I needed to get the motor and switch.

You need everything linkage, motor, and switch. Not sure about 62 but 63 is different than 64-66 in the 63-66 the wiring is different but is there in the harness. You need someone with a 62 parts book and a wiring schematic.

'63 was the first year of the "crossing" wiper pattern, wasn't it? Does the "non-crossing" system take the same motor/crank/"parking" switch set-up?

Yes Dick you are correct about the design change in '63

Not sure on the other parts as I would have to check part#'s I do not have access to a '62 parts book.

You need everything. Motor, switch, motor-to-switch wiring, and the complete linkage including the complicated sandwich of parts between the motor crank arm and the link bar it attaches to. This sandwich of parts should be carefully taken apart, cleaned, and lubricated with as close as possible to the correct material. Originally it was Led-Plate, which is hideously toxic and no longer easily available. Graphite anti-seize paste is a suitable substitute. Do not attempt to disassemble the parts until you have the factory service manual in front of you to make sure you can get it all back together correctly.
