Folks,

I got my 66 Coronet Slant Six in June. I plan to convert to the Pertronix 1361A ignition module replacing the points later this summer. I'd like to get a new coil at the same time but not sure about the 1.5ohm vs 3.0ohm coils. The two Flame Thrower coils are 40011 (1.5ohm) and 40511 (3.0ohm). Which coil do I need? Thanks!

Jon

According to Pertronix, you can use either one. They don't publish enough specs on their coils for me to tell if either one is better than the other... Or better than the stock coil, for that matter.

If the coil will be replaced with small resistance one, there come problem with the resistor in the firewall.

To me a 3 ohm coil and 1-1.5 ohm resistor together sounds like pair which will work well together.

Yes, slant is not sensitive for coil type. I had an universal coil from 4 cyl engine and my 225 was happy to rev up to 6k.

Thank you Igu32! I have not called Pertronix yet. I noticed in their install procedures for the ignition module that they want the user to leave the ballast resistor in place. That is fine with me. Also, I put two new replacement ballast resistors in my tool bag in the trunk of the car in case I need one on the road.
