So I removed the instrument panel on my 63 valiant to clean it up and check the bulbs since it has never lit up. Wow, what a configuration! How does one troubleshoot this thing? looks like an early version of a printed circuit board....Can someone enlighten me on how this thing is wired? I've never seen anything like it...

Thanks

Yes, '63 was the second year for printed-circuit instrument panel hookups. You really need a factory service manual; one of the three books listed here. It has full wiring diagrams and pinouts for the circuit board and vehicle wiring.

Your instrument cluster bulbs might be all burned out, and/or the dashboard illumination rheostat built into your headlamp switch might have failed.

Everything on the panel gets its ground via its metal-to-metal mount, so when troubleshooting with the panel removed, run a test lead from the metal rear housing to a good ground.
