How is it not boost? You are in essence force feeding the engine more atmosphere, just like a turbo or blower.

The gasket does not change how a stock head flows or how the stock bearings, pistons, rings performed....etc The engine still ran fine with the stock head gasket...it just pushed water out under boost. And, If I recall, it still went 12's all "stock" and 11's with a new head gasket and o-rings.

It DOES change the engines ability to handle boost though. You have stated yourself that the "stock" engine could not handle large doses of boost w/o taking out the head gasket.

Stock head gaskets don't last long in nitrous motors either though.

Wouldnt a relatively stock slant be able to run decent times like for example a 189hp version of ryans car with no turbo since it has a 4000stall and what not?

Kev

I would like to see a 189 rwhp motor in my car. I'm guessing crank hp being around 230-235. This is a fairly stout NA motor. In mine it is either all in or all out. Also, no boost = no stall. What I was trying to get at before was I would like to see a nitrous fed motor be as tame as mine but on the bottle put out the same. Is it possible? Also, my stock head gasket handled 27 psi when the AF was within reason. I would only have an issue with weather change or me trying something new. Dennis, are you the quickest nitrous feed Slant? Later

Oh I was just saying it out of curiosity, now that i think about it that would be a stout na motor cuz my na motor has a pretty big cam 10;1 compression and the good bits and its probably not much more than 200horse, just a guess.

Sounds like theres a nitrous slash turbo fued brewing that just leads to good ol fashion competition

First off, No2 is an oxidizer, it in no way adds PSI to the engine like a turbo and supercharger.

The original headgasket never failed and I never said boost would take out the gasket. The gasket was actually fine but the bolts were the culprit. It still went 12's. Ok, so I changed the gasket and actually made the engine "less than stock" because the compression ratio was reduced below the factory level due to a twice as thick head gasket.

In the final analysis, with a "less than stock" engine, the car went faster piggie with less cam, less head, less convertor, less gear, less tire, more weight by almost 8mph and .23 seconds.

But it boosts the amount of O2 in the combustion chamber..........

So combustion pressure goes up like it does with a turbo or supercharger.

The greater combustion pressure is what blows out the headgaskets.

Congrats to you. I have in no way stated that your car was slow, highly modified, etc.. I am just tired of you continually calling your motor "all stock" when it isn't. Hell, you've even been caught with your hand in the cookie jar on Moparts claiming to run 12's with a "stock" Slant 6, while neglecting to even say it was turbo'd.

Really though, who needs a cam, headwork, converter, etc, when you have a turbo, intercooler, and alcohol injection? potato, potahto.

If you look back, I have stated many times that a turbo IS the way to go for big power that does not kill parts like nitrous does. I guess no one paid any attention to that.

I don't even have a nitrous combination at this time simply because boost does not make a good bracket car. I had the fastest Slant street car in the country for a long time, and all it did was cost me money.

By the way, if force feeding oxygen to a motor isn't boost, what is it?

Peace, out. :D :D :D :D

I'm glad to see you took it as I meant it. After I posted, I was thinking you might take it as a "put down", and not as a smart a$$ remark. I was not able to get back here before now.
