Looks like it's time for some quality Forged pistons.

I am assuming those were a cast set of pistons?

Nitrous and boost Love to Eat $ and Parts if not treated with care and respect in the tuning phase.

B00$T is addicting though.

I dont have a boosted car yet.

i should go forged but im gonna keep the cast for now. ill just be more careful with the tuning. boost is certainly addictive. when i started out i was gonna shoot for around 10psi. thats laughable now. i wanna see what it can hold with a good tune. once i get a real failure on a good tune ill spend some coin and build a motor to handle more.

since the motor is gonna be down for a while, not in the mood to pull the motor just yet. im gonna work on the head, bigger valves, smooth out any sharp edges in the combustion chamber and open up the runners some. also gonna work on the quick spool thing. found this video https://youtu.be/REJzNx-Qt2Y gonna try something like this. wondering what materials will hold up to the temps. also trying to figure out how to attach the door to the shaft. i would like to be able to remove it if i have the need to.

I've seen those, and like the idea. I'll have to see if I can find a pic of the one I seen... Was a plate with the valve in it, sound like what you might be looking for.

*EDIT: just do a quick google search 'quick spool valve', looks like most of em are the plate type, and for sale :wink:

that was actually the first one i saw. did some more searches and came up with the one in the video. i dont have any room to spare to raise up the turbo. otherwise i would do the plate setup. the other factor is the plate setup is gonna make all kinds of turbulence when its closed. gonna be an erratic spool. this setup funnels it in a little better.

Not gonna lie I don't see the point of the quick spool valve just looks like a restriction to me to add to back pressure? I don't know what size your turbo is or if it's bigger than my precision 62/62 but not sure why that would be needed my car hits full boost before I shift out of first gear 19psi

i never see full boost in 1st gear. but then again the tires never hold through 1st either. lol. its got a little more lag then im looking for. its going to close off half of my twin scroll housing. taking my .89 ar housing down to a .44. it will restrict it at first, once boost starts it will open and run like normal. that should equal a much much faster spool, better response at any given rpm and let me cash in on all the low end torque im missing out on. either way its to late to back out now. i just got done cutting up the turbo. lol

Oh sweet okay once you explain it that sounds like it should work that makes sense. I didn't realize you had any turbo lag but then again I didn't know what size turbo you were running lol.

so here is where im at so far with the qsv (quick spool valve).
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/Mobile%20Uploads/20150319_173815_zpsiulbtedv.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20150319_173815_zpsiulbtedv.jpg"/>
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/Mobile%20Uploads/20150319_173812_zpsx52zg4js.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20150319_173812_zpsx52zg4js.jpg"/>
i used an old socket for the bushing. kept the tolerances pretty loose to compensate for expansion.
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/Mobile%20Uploads/20150319_173827_zps7vem5n8l.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20150319_173827_zps7vem5n8l.jpg"/>
used an old exhaust valve for the shaft. if that melts then i give up. trying to figure out what to use for the door. i have some steel plate that im probably gonna wind up using if no one tells me otherwise. i just dont want this crap melting and tearing up my turbo. i have an extra turbo if this goes south but it shouldnt be necessary. still gotta dig up an actuator and make a bracket to hold it.

Oh okay got ya the holset would be a big difference over the chine turbo. My precision spools like a beast! That valve is pretty cool looks like it's coming together I'm sure you would be fine using that valve stem and just some 1/4 mild steel that's what the YouTube video looked like at least.

put a little time in on the qsv. used a bracket left over from my hei conversion. was the top piece that held down the coil to the stock gm braket. the actuator is a 1st gen dsm. should open around 10-12psi. still need to bend the rod and weld on a tab with a post to connect it all.
