I was thinking of going with a Pontiac 301 draw through turbo on a 4 bbl intake, improve the exhaust. Anyone tried this setup ?

There is an "uncle tony" video on YouTube where he is test driving a similar setup using the Buick version.

While I'm of the "there's no carburetor like no carburetor" view when it comes to tuning turbo engines, this looks like a fairly straightforward starting point as the carb already has the necessary rework for use under boost. I have seen this adapted to other engines, although I can't recall if it is a slant six or not. The overall layout looks pretty straightforward to transplant, with it mostly needing an adapter to your intake, some new exhaust piping, and adequate support for the turbo's weight.

Scroll thru the pictures. Should be fairly easy to fit to a slant six. That's why I got mine, and the total cost was about $35.00 The turbo does need a "kit", and last I heard the repair parts were still available, at a reasonable price.
