I got the alignment done and the car is safely back at Adam's. Seat back brace is done, new sway bar end link bolts installed, fire suppression system going in now.

It has been raining here the last few days. It sure would be nice to have some windows in this thing...

It is clearing up the next few days, so hopefully we will get some actual hard testing done. I want to find any weak spots before we take it 14+ hours to Sebring.

Hoping to find a smokin' deal on an enclosed trailer before Wednesday...

Why aren't there windows?

Weight savings. It's a thing...

When you are racing the front windows have to be down if they are still present.

I plan to put the side glass back in it for the long tow to and from Florida... unless I find an enclosed trailer before then...

I understand the weight thing. I was just wondering about the aerodynamic thing. But I guess the rules take care of that.

I believe it might be better to have the rear side windows in place for the aerodynamic benefit. Also, when racing in the rain. We are running out of time before Sebring, but eventually I will cut some Lexan for the side windows.

Yes, side windows are a very important aerodynamic consideration on a '62 Valiant 8)

(sorry, couldn't resist :D )

Joe, That there just hit me funny bone!! :D Aero on a 62 Valiant is about like a cattle truck pushing a 12' barn gate across the front down the track!! :D :D

We love you Rob!!

I put the glass back in it today. Don’t tell “Lightness Lou”...

It’s just for the tow down to Florida and back to keep some of the weather out.

Fire suppression system is all in. Roll cage padding is in. New electric oil pressure gauge is in. I replaced all the bump stops. Upper radiator hose and thermostat housing are re-worked. I continue to steal parts off other cars...

Finally getting around to organizing some good photos.

This was our first event with ToadRacer at Sebring, FL 8-9 May. It was a mad thrash to get it ready.

The car ran great and was on track longer than almost every other car there with 60 entries. We were on track turning laps for 14 hours and 40 minutes and made 182 laps. That’s about 673 miles of a lot of wide open throttle, hard braking, hard turning.

Only two cars were on track longer by 5 and 20 seconds!

We wound up in 34th place out of 60 entries, so not quite in the top half. We will put together an engine with a little more power for the next event at Bowling Green, KY 25-26 September. We’ve already got drivers and crew signed up!

Oh yeah,... We won the Organizer’s Choice award too!

Just curious, does that thing have any sway bars on it?

It does have a mid range front swaybar on it. Lou can provide the details on the bar. He had it on either his '68 or '64 Dart for awhile before donating it for this. There are some pics earlier in the thread.

I have a 'universal' fit rear sway bar that I was going to put on a Volare wagon I had. I can measure it for size and you can have it if you can use it.

No rear sway for a road race A-body. Been there, not good. The car is actually super neutral and feels great on track. It can out corner most of the cars out there. We will work on engine and brakes before worrying about further susp mods. What you see the car doing and what feels good and works well on track are very different things. Yes, flattening the car in the corners helps some, but in my experience it is a "last 10%" kind of thing.

Probably next for susp will be stiffer tbars and better shocks, and maybe slightly stiffer leafs.

Lou

Interesting, I did not know that. Thanks Lou.
I think they did an awesome job with that.
I am looking forward to seeing what changes are in store.
