Yes, I checked and you are quite right, it would be possible to do that. But you would need to be very careful when calculating where to cut.

Here is a picture of the left side cut open from below. You can see the threaded holes from the inside (in the picture there is still a broken bolt in one of the threads). It would seem that, at least on this car, the correct size is 3/8 coarse bolts that are just screwed through the hangar into these threaded holes.
