Need some advice on what you guys do to secure the ram head. I've had a couple people try to steal it with not luck. I currently dont have the base I just decided to screw it in with a bolt would that be my best bet? Or should the bolt be a torx bolt with some lock tight on it. What would you guys recommend. These ram heads are hard to find.

I took mine off my 86 Ramcharger the day I purchased it.
Good luck keeping it from being swiped.

When I bought my current truck the ram head was missing. When I asked about it the guy said "Yeah I have it, it's over here". and he went and got it off the windowsill, and handed it to me.
Hed taken it off to prevent it from disappearing. It's been enough years since that was a regular thing on trucks, that I didn't think people still stole them.
JCWhitney used to sell a version, that the eyes on the ram head, could be wired to light up. As I remember, you had a choice of them lighting up 3 or 4 colors. think they had one that lit up gold, another red, another green and I think they had one that lit the eyes up blue. and back then they weren't taht expensive. Back when I had one of those trucks after another, I was gonna buy one but never got around to it.

When I had What The Truck, several ram's heads were stolen off it. I considered a variety of methods to try to stop the vandalism, but two things stopped me: vandals who encounter deliberate resistance tend to try harder and break more stuff worse; and that springy foldaway mount makes the ornament a much less lethal weapon in the already-awful-enough event of hitting a pedestrian.

So just leave it as is? I took off the mount for that same reason and just screwed a screw underneath it.

I always hated them so I gave mine away.

got any left? I have an older "bird bath" hood and cowl that I'm thinking of using on the 85. I haven't drilled any holes yet but was wondering what that hood would look like with the Ram head on it?

My '82 came with a missing Ram. No base plate either, so I have holes. An '88 I had still had the Ram and no one stole it in the 3 or 4 years that I owned that. The urban legend years ago, true or not, was that they were very popular in Satanic ritual groups. The going price of an original seems to rise steadily. There are some cheesy plastic, too small ones available. There have been several multiple animal sacrifice rituals performed in local graveyards in the past 10 years so maybe the Ram still rules.

Some of those stylized speed Rams on some of the old Dodges (early 50's?) were nice.

I just bought one of these off Amazon. You can get them with or without the lighted eyes. It looks identical to my factory one except it's chrome but not too shiney and has a solid base not the springy thing. It's the same size and shape as the oem. Only the front mounting hole lines up. I will have to drill the rear hole but the existing hole will be covered.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing!

A quick search on Amazon for Dodge Ram Head hood ornament found them.

Amazing there are so many D150 parts that are not available, but you can get a re popped Ram’s head with eyes that light.

But not a fuel tank, to replace a cracked stock plastic one

Very true! I got lucky and found a 30 gallon one with an in tank fuel pump out of a '93 360 Magnum truck. Looks like efi is in my future.
