In order to get the aftermarket wheels I want for my 63 Valiant, I need a different bolt pattern. I learned that I can have adaptors made to change my 4" pattern to 4.5, a more common pattern. Does anyone see a problem with this??

I have done this a couple of times. It is best to get billet aluminum adapters, which add about 1" of width on each side. This means you may need wheels with more inboard offset than the stockers.

There was some truck accessory company on ebay a while back that made nice ones for something like $75/pr (need 2 sets). Not sure what's out there now.

Best, Lou

If at all possible I would spend the money on upgrading to disc brakes which would already have the bigger bolt pattern. Disc brakes make a world of difference in how the car drives and stops.

Rick has a very important point. Going to front disc brakes (and 4.5" pattern) will give you a much safer and more enjoyable car.

The wheels I cm considering have a 3.75" backspace....Will that work on my car if I use the adaptors?

Probably not. What wheel width are you considering? You will likely need something like 4.5" backspace, and more like 5" would be better, assuming you want a 7" or 8" wide wheel.

Looking at 7" wide wheels: I thought backspace would be problematic: The rears will be the problem, with that limited space. : I don't see a problem with the front wheels, using 3.75 backspace. Am I wrong?

Depends on the tire width/diam for the front. You'll need small/narrow tires. It will be dangerous to use 3.5" BSpc w/o measuring on a 7" wheel and 1" spacers. I highly suggest getting 4.5" - 5" BSpc. 4" will be better, but still not sure.
