Any tips on how to remove the wipers on my 63 Valiant? I see that there is a decorative screw-on cap to remove, but not sure how to get the arms off; If they are like most, the arms can just be pried off, but not sure about this car.....

It's not decorative; that's what holds the pre-'65 wiper arm onto the shaft. Do yourself a giant favour: once you've removed them, do not reinstall them. Not worth futzing with the original arms and their all-but-unfindable replacement 13" blades. New up-to-'64 arms with the bolt-on attachment have been N/A for years, and the springs in them go flabby and eventually useless for keeping the blade pressed firmly against the glass for a clear wipe.

My preferred fix: get two Anco № 41-03 universal replacement wiper arms. They're fully adjustable for correct length and blade angle, and are really well made with good, strong springs. They also come with nicely-designed adaptors to fit on the pre-1965 screw-down wiper shafts. I had worried they'd be ugly, but really, they look just fine and work well. There's also probably enough room to go to 14" or even 15" blades rather than the original 13s if you adjust the arm length and angle strategically.

(Then you remove and install them just like factory '65-up arms, by lifting the base up at its very end; the special tool makes removal easy, but you can use a rag and two screwdrivers if you're careful.)

Yes, but......... how do I get the old arms off? Removing the top caps did nothing... Arm won't pull off.. stuck on that threated stud.

Drizzle in some good penetrant, tap-tap-tap-tap with a hammer to break the corrosion's grip, then pry.

Any other tips? These arms just will not come off... Am I missing something? They seem frozen to that threaded stud. Even after soaking in penetrant for 2 days....

Pretend you're pulling the flywheel off a small engine: thread a nut to the top of the stud, not so far down that it contacts the wiper arm. Protect the paint around the base of the arm. Use a wide screwdriver to pry up on the arm while you rap on the nut.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to get/make/improvise a puller of some kind, or just cut the arm off the stud, then proceed as advised above with the new Anco arms.
