I'm at my wits end trying to get a well functioning carb for my 63 Valiant; My original Holley 1920 has been "rebuilt" bu friend but it still runs like crap; So I bought a "new" remanfuctured Carb from Rockauto (an "autoline" 1 bbl carb, which I think is a UnRemco carter) It also runs terrible in spite of all my adjustment efforts. SO,,, I am tempted to send my Holley off to (Uremco) to have it rebuilt.... Is this is a wise move?? I am not sure where to go from here..

Might need to be more specific on what sort of crap it's running like.

While I can easily believe a parts store carburetor would be junk out of the box, this could potentially be a totally different issue such as an ignition problem.

I've tuned the motor (new plugs, new wires, new distributor, adjusted the timing (when it did run), also new reconditioned head, including new springs, etc.

Plus it idled fine, just bogs down really bad when I open the throttle.

Sounds like a vacuum leak, have you put a gage on it to see what your reading?

Yeah, not a vacuum leak

If it idled fine, probably not a vacuum leak. Sounds like either a timing issue, or bad accelerator pump shot. Did you check that the timing mark on the damper is actually at TDC? What is the timing set for, with the vacuum advance disconnected, and at what RPM?

Timing is good.. Bad accel pump sounds like a possibility, I just have to figure out how to determine that.... thank you

"Timing is good", means nothing. what is "good"? 0 degrees, 5, 10, 15 ? Factory specked some slant sixes at 0 degrees, I have one slant that is at 15 degrees, and another about 10. But I do lean toward the accelerator pump.

Well I re=checked my timing and it is set a couple of degrees past "0 (My damper marks are only in 5 degrees increments); The shop manual says it should be 2 1/2 degrees BEFORE TDC: So I'm going to reset it andcheck again. Thanks

I would try setting it at about 5 degrees before TDC. as a starting point.

Look down the carb and press the throttle down. Do you see a nice long squirt of fuel shoot into the carb? If not the accelerator pump is not working

As Charlie said go to a minimum 5 degrees before on your timing.

When was the last time the valves were adjusted.
