Since I mainly do 1/8 mile stuff I am thinking about putting in 5.13. Not sure if going up from 4.86 is worth it though.

I got the new spool installed with the mystery gear.
Bearings were pressed on the spool as well as a new pinion seal, 1350 pinion flange and crush collar eliminator.

Also got the new (to me & Ruster) converter installed.
Fired it up Sunday Nite and was concerned that something was off in the trans.. After I kept adding quarts of fluid to the trans and running the car up to temperature the converter filled up.
Stalled it up and it shifts through the gears and the trans brake works too.

Somehow developed a small oil leak at the back of the engine. Not sure what caused that one?? :roll: :?: I will try to fix it or devise some sort of diaper( seymour style) for Virginia.

I have a nail / screw to remove / patch on one of the trailer tires too, then should be good to get loaded up for next week.

After returning from Motormile (1/8th Mile Track in Fairlawn, Va), I am sorting through some Data.

I tried a New Converter that I Bought Off Mike J Years ago. I have 4 (race) Converters for the 904, none of which must stall over 2500 RRM (I need to do further investigation on this to see for sure), As I really don't know how to accurately test for stall speed.

It seems that I Just need to Spend some Dough and just get a new converter made for my car.

I put in a 5.57 Gear for the 1/8 Mile.. I did not get near any sort of ET or Speed record, possibly due to the High Elevation / Low Barometer as well as the "No Prep" Track Surface.

I did get a bunch of passes over the 2 nights at the track and I am going to try this combo at the local track to see how it shakes out on a real good prepped track ( keystone Raceway park does a fantastic job on that) before putting Ruster away for the Winter.
I do need to get new Rear slicks, - Currently I have 28" Diameter Slicks - Considering Trying 29" or 29.5" to see what Happens.

Here were some times from Motormile:

All of the 60' times were unpredictable and varying wildly due to the no prep track surface.

Here are some 1/8 Mile Times:
5.57 Gear, with 28" Tires: - Shifting through 3 gears Finish Line 6200-6600- Trap speed was the same as if I was going through the 1/8 Mile with the 4.56's

8.01 @ 86.89 (cold Off trailer / Green Track) (throw away run)
7.74 @ 87.80
7.70 @ 87.89
7.80 @ 87.38
7.73 @ 87.74 (Sat Morning 1st Run)
7.74 @ 87.82
7.64 @ 88.57 (track Getting some Decent rubber laid down from the other classes / rounds of racing)
7.61 @ 88.70

It also looked like the track maybe had that 1% uphill thing gong on, but I have no way to verify, it could be an optical illusion as the Shutdown goes uphill.


Trying Some Test n tune at Home here on Saturday to see if the car does any better or worse with this setup. :-)

General way to test stall is cruise along the return road around 15 mph or so in 3rd gear and floor it. Watching the tach you should see what it stalls to before it lugs the engine.

I would just put the trans brake on in the garage, turn off the 2 step limiter, and bring it up to 1/2-3/4 throttle. Look at your tach while you do this. You will feel it when the converter tops out and the RPM will plateau. This is your stall speed. It may go a bit higher "flash" when you are on the line and go WOT, but it will be within 100-300 RPM of what you meausure in the way I describe. First thing I do when I buy a converter is find the static stall like this. If no 'brake, then hold brakes really hard and bring throttle up. Even if it breaks the tires loose, the RPM you get before it spins 'em is very close to the stall speed. Another way is just look at the tach as you let off the brakes (or button) on the starting line (with good traction) and see where the RPM goes in the first fraction of a second. Many ways to skin this cat, and none of them hard.

Please post your cam specs when you get a chance.

Looks like a pretty nice cam, but you can do somewhat better. No way you should be running that will less than 4000 stall.

Static CR is 13.5:1? What is your max valve lift (set by springs used and valve spring retainer/guide clearance)? I guess it's a Mike J head, but I think anything over about 0.560" lift will not help you more. I'll look at Oregon lobes...
