I had to make a little shorter dummy cluster shaft to get the cluster installed.
The case modifications made it a little closer inside the case.
After figuring that out I got the cluster and main input shaft in.
Actually, input shaft in first, then slip the cluster up and install the shaft.
I did figure out I could put it together easier if I was left handed!
Here is 4th gear in the case.

My case is aluminum.
Liberty installed steel countershaft bushings front and rear.
The rear one is notched for the brass thrust washer, so it will slip in like stock.
The forward one is not notched.
So you have to position the front one on the bush and the back one on the cluster.
That is why I needed a shorter installation shaft.

You would not need anything to put it in a stock case, steel or aluminum.

Got it together today.
Instructions would help, but it works its way out after some stops and starts.
You have to put the box together like an OD box with the cluster in the bottom of the case.
After getting the mainshaft in, then you put the cluster back in place.
The input retainer is on my mock up trans, so I have to swap that out.
Looking forward to seeing how this all works out.

Rick, I agree, with the lower power it should live. Going to see. Maybe saving a few pounds here will be a good idea or a bad one.
Let me know if you need more pictures, I took one at every step so I used it as a QA process.
This way if I way if I wake up in the middle of the night wondering if I put a snap ring in, I can look at the pictures.
Today I figure out which side cover and get a weight on the assembly.

Did you get your aluminum case and tail shaft from an OD trans or somewhere else? I seem to remember trying to put the 2.66 A833 parts in an OD case and they wouldn't fit.

Well with that teeny tiny car, almost any clutch is a good one. It's not like you have a d series truck or volare with a 2.71 rear gear.... wait.... unless you have soft sticky rear tires on the starting line at the drag strip... then yes you need a good clutch!

Its a 76 OD front case and a DC extension housing.
The gear is a 70 T/A-AAR gear set on an A Body main shaft.
The input retainer is a turned down unit because of the big bearing.
It fits into the Lakewood shield.
It would not fit in a stock bell.
Brewer says you can turn down the retainer and open the bell to use it in a stock bell.

Chrysler made a retainer for the big bearing, but its for the large 18 spline input shaft.
Actually now that I think about it, I could have found a Hemi input shaft and installed with my gear set.
All the high gears should be the same ration of teeth.
Then I would not have to modify the input retainer.

Thanks for the info on the OD case. I remember one problem was that the OD extension housing was made for the smaller yoke. Next to Mark's Jericho this will be the trickest transmission ever put behind a Slant! Keep on building.
