Hey Folks,

Well, I called Hamilton's Machine again today for an update. They are still swamped, but can see some light. Robbie said he had planned to work on it last Sat, but... He is still on board. I told him we had 15+ BHs in line.

My apologies again for the delay. I will get back to him again in 1-2 weeks to check in.

Lou

Lou,

Please refresh my memory (since I am too lazy to do a search). Are Hamiltons going to make bells or do we need to send one to them to adapt the slant bell to a T5 pattern? I would love to put a 5-speed in my car.

Phil

Phil,

The deal is that you send me an OD/Slant bell and I give them a pile of them to modify to accept the T5 trans (hole-centric adapter plate). Cost will be around $150 for the work.

You just need to send me an OD bell and $50 deposit. I will also have them make adapter rings to install a Mustang pilot bearing in the back of your crank hub for the T5 input shaft.

I thought we'd be done by now, but you know how things go...

Lou

The way things are going even I could put a 5 speed in my car by the time they are done.....

Thanks for the update, Lou. You mentioned early on that the adapter ring for the pilot bearings were different for the 4, 6 and 8 cylinders, so let me know when you need my choice. I'll probably go with a V8 version, but I'm still looking around at T-5's.

Pilot bearings are all the same. It's the Slant crank hub that is different - 68-up and 67-down. So, two adapter rings are needed for the Mustang pilot bearing.

Sorry if I'm confused, but I was referring to this:
Quote:
Everyone should let me know what crank hub diameters you have, and T5 trans type you will use (input shaft length) V8, V6 or 4cyl. I would prefer to avoid small hub cranks (pre 6, but could be talked into it. Price might be slightly higher for those small hub crank/pilot spacer rings. If you DO NOT want a crank hub/pilot spacer, then let me know. You might want to do this if you don't know which trans you will use.
I definitely have the post '68 crank...

Thanks for your patience!

Whoops! You are correct, Vynn, that the lengths of the rings need to be different for the 4,6,8cyl trannys too. My apologies on that.

So, there are 6 flavors possible here (2 diameters, 3 lengths).

 No prob, Lou. As previously, stated, just lemme know when you need to know which tranny I'll be using. Probably the V8 version, since I think I'll be looking for the .63 overdrive.

Any advice on looking for T-5's? I've been using good 'ol car-parts.com to look around, but it looks like most of them sell them rebuilt for $700-900 rebuilt, + a core charge. For that money, I might as well go with a brand new one from Pherd Motorsports for $1149.95 and has the .63 OD. Guess I need to check some local yards, but maybe a rebuilt with a warranty would be a better idea...

I have a T-5 that needs to be rebuilt, 1-4 are fine, but 5th and reverse won't engage. I paid $100 for it, it's out of a V8 car, I wouldn't pay much more then that for one unless they can promise that it is usable as is.

All this talk about T-5's... Are Ford and Chevy (and maybe others) equally good as T-5 sources?

I'm afraid we are still in the pits. I meant to call them again this past week, but soooo busy. Will try them soon.

T5s from Fords or Chevs should work, BUT the chev designs have the trans more rotated and funky shifter angles. I think they are pretty much the same except for some input shaft length differences and the shifter bend.

I talked with Robbie Hamilton this morning and he is committed to getting the prototype done by Friday. This would mean I could drop off the other bells next week. I will get a completion date for the big run from him either Friday or Mon.

If you haven't sent me a bell and dep, you should do it NOW.

Lou

Thanks. Would that rotation be a transmission thang or a bell thang?

That is, are the actual tranny bolt holes different from other T-5's?
