I've noticed that it doesn't seem to make a difference what application I look up, all applications for the single pickup EI distributor lead back to same part numbers. But not all advance curves are the same from car to truck to van etc right?

So if going junkyard hunting, what applicaiton is best to grab from? Ones with the "9r" plate are best for higher initial advance right? I know previous thread mentioned this but couldn't find it.

The distributor will go in a fully loaded 71 duster with 3.23 rear gears that provides daily driver duties with lots of freeway miles if that makes a difference.

Every different year, model, engine, transmission and emissions package got its own unique advance curves. The "remanufacturing" industry, in typical fashion, consolidates these into a single "roulette" curve (how lucky do you feel?).
Best bet is to get a good-condition distributor and tweak/tune its advance curves to suit your needs.

So far buying a few remanfs to tear down for recurves I've had this kind of stats spread:

If you ask for a dist. for a 1973-1975 the 2 I got had the 15R governor....

I then asked for a 1976 Duster distributor the 3 I've gotten: 2 were 9R and one was some wack 13R governor...

The last two I have gotten I ordered telling them I had a 1978 Volare 225-2V and have been 9R governors...

I'll do some more pokin arond but of the various years i tried, 73, 75, even early 80's trucks and vans, all came back to one Cardone part #.

DI: I thought you built a distributor for someone here at one point, is it a busines your doing on the side or was that a one time only deal? Rather give you the money then parts store and guess at what I'm going to get....

I am also looking for a new distrib, there are some at the bone yard but how can I tell if they are original or a reman?

Yahbut, since all those applications get you the same distributor (by the "remanufacturer" numbers), your results have been random, and not application-specific. Luck of the draw.

I guess I got lucky,I found a pickup in the junkyard that was the same basic platform as my d100 (2wd /6 auto 1/2 ton),except a '80 model with electronic ignition. And the cool part is I knew the dist. worked good because I had actually driven the truck for a test drive a few months before,when someone else was selling the truck.
