Id like to install the Clifford double 2 barrel carb intake on my slant. Will the Classic Air mounting be in the way?

I think you should be fine. I have the Classic Air on my slant, and I have had every kind of manifold on it, and they all seemed to be just fine. The aircleaner might be a problem make sure you get the two barrel air cleaner that is for AC, as it has an indent to clear the mopar AC compressor, and hoses. Many of the later (79-80, 81) 2 barrel set ups came with a rotoary compressor similar to your Sanden compressor. That would be your best bet. You might look for the somewhat rare 80's New Yorker or Lebaron with a slant, and AC.l

It's good now but at first it was not. Installed as directed in the dash was perfect. Installed under the hood was not. If you put it in their way, the fan stock fan will not clear the factory radaitor. Got a plastic Fex-o-Lite 17" and trimmed the edge of each blade to clear compressor clutch. Also had to use a 2.5 inch fan spacer. Worked good at night but the engine would hot in the day. (Orlando,FL) Ordered BeeCools direct fit radiator which is thicker. Fan would hit. Ground welds off of compressor mount plate and moved them back 5/8" Replaced fan spacer with 2" replaced Fex fan with 18 3/8" plastic Fex-o-Lite blade. (larger blade can now clear trans lines because new rad. ports are on the side) Run compressor belt in the power steering grove. (I had manual steering) Custom made a thermostat housing and piped top radiator hose straight out of the head and around the back side of the compressor and than rubber hose to new radiator which is plumbed on the drivers side. Custom made a battery tray and moved it back 3.5". Had to use a small Optima battery.(Red Top)
Thats about it, not to bad. :D The guys at the car shows love it. They say "You must really like A/C, but it sure does look good" That after I tell them why I did it.

Your little write up on how you solved each problem you came accross while installing the Classic AC under the hood typifies what makes the car hobby so cool, and gratifying. You didn't throw in the towel, or give up, you just proceded with what needed to be done. That must feel very satisfying to you, and is a real inspiration to others. This process stamps each custom car with the mark of the owner's creativity, and personality. I suspect other gear heads are the only ones who can begin to appreciate what goes into a project like that. The general public looks with kind of a dumb eye, but the real gear head, he knows.

Since I had installed an aluminum cross flow ratiator, and dual 10" electric fans, I didn't run accross the conflicts you did. Your example will be a help to anyone wanting to put this set up on their stock A body.

That's good info. Sounds like their compressor mount/drive kit is maybe a little bit too "universal" (not tested out as carefully as we might like). Bet it fits fine in an F-body or a truck! That's not such a tough problem to get around, as it seems to me; there are lots of options for compressor mounting on a slant-6; one might not necessarily use the Classic Air mount setup.

Thanks for the review; my '71 Dart doesn't have A/C...yet!

I tried the electric fan route but could not get the belts to clear the fans. Maybe its the difference between the 11"dual and the 10's. Going to try to do this picture thing. :(

Classic Auto kit was about $1300 -$1500 with tax and shipping, I can't remember. Radiator was alot -$700. Optima Red Top battery- $90? Custom water neck- built myself -$12. Both hoses - $25. Custom battery tray again I built- $10.

OK, wait a sec, hold the phone a minute: As delivered, the Classic Air kit mounts the compressor such that it's driven off the accessory belt drive groove in front of the main crank pulley groove?

As delivered no. The kit is shipped with a pulley that has 2 groves in it. This pulley is added to the balancer with 3 bolts and a new crank bolt. This gives you three groves total. First grove (engine side) still runs water pump and alt. Middle grove runs power steering pump if you have one. (I don't) 3rd grove runs compressor with a B-size width belt. Note the picture - the belt runs in the 2nd grove of the compressor. This is as delivered. This is not: Since the compressor clutch was in the way of the fan, simply moving the belt back one wouldn't help. The compressor needed to be moved back also and run in the power steering grove. For me this grove has its benifits besides the fan clearing. Please note that the 3rd crank grove is B-width and the rest are A-width. Also the middle grove is a little larger in diameter. Running an A-width belt runs deeper in the compressor pulley which ineffect make its diameter smaller. Without being a lot more wordy (sorry I like to be very clear) My A/C runs colder at idle. The compressor is rated at 6000 RPMs at least maybe more. I can't remember. At 5000 RPMs (engine) its probably running at that.

I've got the Classic Air setup for my 1963 Dart Convertible.

The compressor bracket is clearly not made for the second generation A bodies and, I suspect, not for the first generation.

I decided to use the Mopar V2 compressor on the original brackets.

The belt is driven off a pulley on the engine side of the harmonic balancer.

No more clearance problems.

To get electric fans to clear the nose of the water pump, I had to put in two 10" fans staggered to clear the water pump. Things are pretty tight, but they work fine. This left the area around the AC compressor pretty open, and allowed a broader choice of pulley grooves to chose from. Since my Dart had factory air to begin with, I used the factory pulleys that were bolted to the harmonic balancer from the factory.
I used this Dart as a daily driver up until last November when I bought another small car as a daily driver, and turned the DArt back into a project once again. As a result, the engine compartment is pretty "daily driver" looking, and not "show car" looking at all. Your engine bay looks much prettier than mine. Congrats again on a job well done.

Sam, what size alternator are you running. I sold my dual 11" Spal fans and controller to a friend for his 68' 300. His battery would run down in about 3 days of driving. The 440 stayed nice and cool but the 60 Amp alt could not keep up. I bought the fans back to be nice. I just upgraded from the 37 Amp single field to the 60 Amp dual field. Also installed a 10ga shunt from the alternator post to the battery with a 12ga fuselink. the ALT gauge still works is just not as sensitive. (less needle swing)
Maybe the dual 10" fans use alot less AMPS than the 11"s
