Should I install a standpipe if I don't have one? Both of my vehicles are 1960 (One a Savoy / 225 the other a Valiant / 170) If I get them, will I have to remove the old part the filter screws onto?

Thanks, Justin

You can if you want. Oil filter antidrainback valves are better today than they were back in the beforetimes, assuming you use a good quality, large-size filter (no Frams, no shorties or extra-shorties!), so you may very well find your oil pressure warning light turns off almost immediately on startup even without a standpipe. The filter's anti-drain valve prevents oil draining back in one direction, and the standpipe with or without check valve prevents oil draining back in the other direction.

yes, you'd need to unscrew the present filter adaptor to install the standpipe.

Nope, the short fitting that comes on some new oil pumps hasn't got a check valve.

My Melling pump came the same way. I just used the stand pipe off the factory filter on it. Also a good time to clean the check valve.
